I've wanted to try acid...
Don't bother with DXM. It'll make you go blind -- temporarily for sure, and with possible long-term vision loss. Oh, and if you go the cold medicine route, you'll probably have die-uh-ree-uh (pardon my inability to spell that one) the whole time you're tripping. Even just taking that shit FOR A COLD I'll occasionally SHIT MYSELF.

LesserFollies and Malygris offered good advice. Otherwise, it's not the acid - it's the flashbacks that'll kill ya. ;)

Was always to send the tripper to the 24 hour garage, with a shopping list, because, they were obviously in no fit state to remember what they were going for.
Now buying things from a 24 hour garage is hard enough in that state, but there is always some idiot who will write something like 'don't smile at the idiot holding this piece of paper' on the back.
Oh and make sure you are staying somewhere warm, the cold can be a nightmare in that state.

Interesting this...my question is, if drugs make your mind work at a different level where the mind is designed to work or is it just a limited release into something greater and more vivid. Do you notice thoughts that are normally filtered out or kept from your conscience? I wonder if the experience of drugs help up in perspective that what we are experiencing as reality, when not on drugs is not necessarily reality as others see it. Who knows what you could be missing out or seeing that noone else can. I reckon at some point in my life I'm bound to find out.

I read up on mushrooms some time ago at (
http://www.erowid.org/experiences/) Erowid and they all seemed to mention that if you happen to take too much you'll be vomitting out the contents of your stomach which is something I'd like to avoid. :P
Wait, how is vomiting out the contents of your stomach a bad thing if you're about to OD on something you eat?

Hah, yes this is true, but what I meant was it was fairly easy to take too much if you're not extremely careful and/or don't know what you're doing. Which I don't. I've never done a drug where I had to measure how much I was taking.

Many moons ago Masters and Johnson published a book on acid called the "Psychedelic Experience" but it dealt little with the physiological effects focusing on the psychological ones instead. They even felt it harmless enough to use themselves as guinea pigs. However, they stressed a controled environment in comfortable non threatening surroundings. It stands to reason one shouldn't do window pane in an army barracks.
As Hunter S. said, I would never advocate the taking of drugs. There are many worse ones though. LSD makes the brains neurons fire frequently and randomly connecting new pathways to areas never associated before. With so much activity going on the brain is lit up with gestalt euphoria and a feeling of seeing things anew. Often however any fears or neurosis become heightened as well. Know thyself.
One of the lasting effects may be that you forever see color more vividly. The tiny reflection on a raindrop may capture your attention when it should be elsewhere. The tracers, the breaking into minute segments of time what was once fluid motion, may last for a time cropping up at odd moments with especially fast moving objects. Although it is next to impossible to OD the spectre of Syd Barrett should be warning enough that messing with brain chemistry carries a risk particularly with repeated exposure to varied substances. Remember what the door mouse said.
There. A dry warning. No mention of carpet waves, crawling patterns in wall paper, riding industrial dryers, laughing at the ludicrous movement of the tongue, or invisible pteradactyls beating the air above your head and sreeching prolonged SCEEEEERROOOOOOOONNNNK sounds that both of you heard and followed as it circled some fifteen feet above you. That last was shrooms anyway. Seriously, the world is full of dirt and messed up people. Try not to become either of them.
And don't operate heavy equipment.

Honestly, I think people who haven't even smoked weed are rather naive in thinking that some drugs are banned purely for public health reasons. That said, I think moderation is the key. If you can do it and gain perspectives from the experience, and be able to stay clean afterwards, then by all means. Once you find yourself doing it on a daily basis and notice that you do nothing but sit around and smoke weed while watching TV/movies and playing video games all night, then you may have gotten to the point where you need rehab. I've been clean for a while, and I feel better about myself simply by knowing that I don't have to question the state of my mind. Luckily for me, I just snapped out of the routine simply out of my own desire to do so. Some people I know don't seem to be so lucky. They keep insisting that weed isn't addictive, but whenever I dare them to go without smoking for a week, all I hear is "I can do it if I want to, but I just don't want to." Funny how I used to use that excuse, too. Anyway, the point is that if you are someone who doesn't know when to stop, then you're better off not doing it at all.
