recently (with pixel shaders on) i have noticed thet the water on my game is no longer the nice shimmering reflective stuff, but a series of ripples, which are see through and stupid. I liked my old water - so like the true ocean - but now, I have to play with pixel shaders off to avoid hurting of the eyes!

Dirt, Dirt, Dirt, everywhere!
All i can say is might need to reinstall your video driver (IF) you had that nice water effects before. If not then something is not right, could be a new video board that doesnt have that effects or need to get the latest driver for it.
Did you get a new video board???
