Who gives a shit about water and rope arrows? They didn't make the original Thief games great, just as their absence doesn't make Thief III poor.

I give three or four shits about water and rope arrows. Just my personal opinion of course.

Well, I do care about water and rope arrows. *Many* small things made original Thief games great, not *one* thing...
Whether water was or was not the essential part of T1/2 is the matter of your taste. Let's not quarrel. Let's find some way to have water in TDS...

Potentially involving submerging your monitor in a fishtank....

Well, I think it'd be pretty pointless to go back and add swimable water to TDS, since none of the missions were made to incorporate it. It could be interesting for FMs. But if it's terribly difficult to implement, don't expect to be seeing it too often. This goes double for rope arrows, since there would need to be specific models and animations made.
I swear, I'm not trying to be overly negative today. Just trying to keep people from getting their hopes up.

I was going to repond to Darkwarriors comment, but after seeing three post in five minutes, I think there's no need.
So I'll just raise a glass to Fingernails comment...amen!

Not to mention that we can't play missions from the T1 & T2 games on the snazzy new T3 engine without some sort of solution for the water and rope arows. Most every Thief 1 and 2 level out there used one or both of them.
dracflamloc on 24/2/2005 at 22:03
Honestly I thought the water idea was kinda dumb... i mean if you swam in water to sneak into a place you'd drag your wet cloaks everywhere...
But rope arrows? Now that I am upset about. We really need those. No new animations would have to be made at first, just play the ladder climbing animation for now. The true problem is that we probably don't have enough access to the internals with the editor, even with unrealscript, to create said ropes. Although I'd love to be proven wrong.

Well, the idea that a skinny six-foot thief could scurry silently through darkened corridors with a bow, a quill with seven different types of arrow, a long sword, various items and potions, a full set of keys, and a sack full of coins, goblets, and candlesticks, and not be detected is just as dumb.
Although I do understand your initial point. I'm not trying to be an ass.

Think back to when Dromed was originally released. It took quite a while before good stuff started coming out consistently. It took longer before even half of the fancy stuff was well understood. And now look at the state of T2 editing: custom scripts, models, even motions.
Give it time. Now is not the time to worry about rope arrows and water. Now is the time to get four walls and a floor going. Now is the time to figure out how to distribute missions and how fans can play them. Save the fancy stuff for next week.
