... and why does this remind me of The Tick?
When I saw that pic of Night Owl, my initial response was "Wait, what's Die Fledermaus doing in this thread?"

Kiss Fan With A Shotgun, Wannabe-Batman, Darkman and some other latex-enthusiasts team up against the forces of evil, eh? Zack Snyder, eh? I have no idea what Watchmen is but this looks like it will be fun. :)

Okay, why does Night Owl look like minimally-redone Batman? Where's the middle-aged guy with a gut? And what's with the fake muscles on Ozymandias' outfit? Keep it more real guys, remember that Moore's watchmen were mostly people who came up with their gear in garages, loosely speaking... Then again, it's too late to complain about that isn't it.
henke: Look (
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=1462) here. In a nutshell, it's a story of an alternate reality in which a/ there were many masked heroes (not
superheroes, I've emphasised this because it's important - even though there are of course exceptions), and b/ the government has eventually made the activities of most of them illegal. As for the plot itself... Well, it's Moore so instead of trying to explain I'd recommend you give it a shot.

People are saying this stuff all over the place but I don't get it. Nite Owl was a Batman take off (please don't drag me through the origins of the character anyone. He's still a fine, upstanding tech and vehicle reliant vigilante like Batman pre 1986 and Moore knew it I'm sure) and that picture does not show a classically proportioned superhero. He looks chunky, pudgy, portly, familiar with the good life as it were.

Not quite. Nite Owl was Alan Moore's reimagining of Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle, however, was an intentional Batman ripoff (created within a year of Batman, way back in 1939).

I'll take the scantily-latex-clad pyro-woman.
Have your nerd fun with the dudes.

As noted above, the issue is more the script than the director. While a bad director can fuck up a good script, an awful script will make an awful adaptation no matter HOW great the director is.
David Hayter is a decent voice actor, but I dunno as a screen-writer. All the stuff he's done has been very comic-booky/blockbustery - and while this is a Hollywood adaptation of a comic, that does not mean those skills will work here, as Watchmen is very literary in nature - if the movie consists of explosions, slow motion backflips, and snappy one-liners, it will be disappointing. So the real questions are:
A. Does he have versatility as a screenwriter?
B. Has he gotten any good tips from Kojima?
C. Who the fuck is Alex Tse and is he any good?

His costume design is, apparently, an intentional jab at Batman's costume in
Batman Forever.

However, his costume in the comic didn't look the least like Batman's.

Given my own impression and that you yourself have said a lot of people think otherwise, I'd say opinions vary a lot on the subject.

Ugh. Could we please be done with postmodernistic-style pop culture references? I for one have had enough of this.
