It's been a while sense I've read it, but The Black Freighter sub-story sticks out for me as a more obvious example. Also, The very ending which shows the New Frontiersman newspaper office receiving Rorschach's journal seems to imply that all Ozymandias' actions, and even Rorschach's death, were ultimately pointless.

A feeling produced by viewing things from many angles, above human level you might say. As though, for instance, watching from a whole lot of screens. But is that the same as being a god? Is that enough to pass judgement on all humanity or even some of it?

And I can say with absolute certainty that there is no way in hell that a director like Zach Snider is going to create a good film out of such weighty and nuanced source material.
I love how after all of two feature films everyone knows exactly what Zach Snyder is capable of as a film maker.

Well, give me another example of a director who's freshman and sophomore efforts were hackneyed and unimaginative and then went on to become the next Stanley Kubrick.

Are you implying that Stanley Kubrick got beyond the hackneyed and unimaginative stage himself?

Oh, snap!

Actually, as I mentioned in another thread, I think Kubrick is rather overrated. I was just throwing his name out there because he's generally put forward by a lot of people as "OMG BEST DIRECTOR EVA!!!!11!!1!!".

Apparently there was a screening of the full (effects incomplete) movie and what follows is a sizable spoiler concerning the resolution of the story:
There is no squid.
Instead Oz constructs a fusion reactor similar to Manhattan's power and destroys several major cities to frame him and allow the US and Russia to ally against Manhattan.
I like it.

It took me two or three reads to get used to the squid, so I fully understand why they decided to find some other way of doing the ending. I do hope that they don't change Dr. Manhattan's leaving too much, though.
Much of what I've heard about this film suggests that they might have a fairly good idea about what makes Watchmen work. I'm still tentatively optimistic.
