Those stages are very nice.
Those aren't even the better stages in the game. I've raced a couple that can take upwards of 9 minutes to complete, and that's without the game adding time to the clock due to my constant screw ups.

Have you come around on this one Jason?
It's the best game Codemasters has ever made, but it still has some issues with the controls and force feedback that need ironed out. It sounds like they're working on it though:

First content update and patch today. Still haven't incorporated the FFB fix or the physics tweaks, but their community manager said we should get them before next month's content update. On the plus side, apparently the ragdoll doesn't shake the wheel back and forth anymore if you're using a wheel for input.

There have been a few more updates this month worth mentioning.
a.) They fixed the force feedback and wheel support, although the cockpit view is kinda unusable because it doesn't sync the in-game wheel to the one on your desk. They also did a few tweaks to the tire and aero stuff and I think the sim overall is reaching RBR quality now aside from the damage model being too forgiving.
b.) The newer update brings the all-tarmac/concrete German rally and some new cars, including what I think may be the greatest simcar of all time:

I also recommend picking it up soon as the price is going to start slowly increasing which each successive content update until early access ends.

The lack of a usable cockpit view would be a deal-breaker in my books.

There is a second "cockpit" camera, the dash cam, which is perfectly serviceable, and there are some mods that move the in-car cameras around to make them more like the cockpit cam from RBR. It's not ideal, but I can deal as long as there is a view from inside the car.

New blog entry: (
https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/blog/4881)
The next update, due near the beginning of august, brings some FIA World Rallycross cars and stages. Even better, there are going to be some updates to the game along with the new content. Replays will be stored in RAM rather than continuously written to the HD, which should remove the stuttering SSD users are getting (I don't have it constantly but there are a few hitches on the longer stages). Punctured tires can now be replaced mid-stage with a time penalty (so you aren't hobbling along on 3 wheels). There will possibly be an update to allow the off-course timer to be disabled.
Most importantly, they'll be adding the option to remove the driver arms and/or wheel and adding more cockpit camera options in regards to the FOV! This should mean the full cockpit, non-dash camera will be usable again.
One of the RallyX drivers instagram'd a shot of his car from the menus of a beta build, so we can see some of the new cars coming soon. I had no idea these cars were pulling 600hp.

I am also screwing up in Dirt Rally now! :D
Started off with 60's cars in the first Open Championship a couple evenings ago. Went with the Lancia Fulvia, since that used to be one of my favourites in Rally Trophy. Finished 4th, so I had to redo the championship. Started again last night and went with a 70's Ford Escort. A rickety machine with terrifying oversteer and equally terrifying British steeringwheel placement. But, by the time I got to Wales I had learned to love the oversteer and I was powersliding like crazy through the turns. Ended up with a 2nd place position. This morning I got up early and got started on the 80's cars. A BMW M3. Beautiful thing. Handles like a shopping cart filled with cinderblocks.

Tried out the VR mode in this yesterday. Here's me driving the 80's BMW M3 on one of the Finland stages.

First off, the important stuff, namely the actual driving, is good. It's a lag and nausea free experience. But everything else is very rudimentary. Menus and the UI text are too tiny to be readable, and a lot of it is too far out in the edge of your view to even be visible. I kept trying to repair my car between races and I can't even tell if I managed to do that. And when you exit to the main menu the game leaves VR altogether and goes back to only displaying on the monitor. I'm hoping this gets improved VR support once the consumer version HMD's are out, because in it's current state, even though it's cool and all, you might be better off just playing the monitor version.

How much does it help to be able to look around freely? I've always found cockpit modes in racing games great to look at but too difficult to play, since I suck at actual driving; does VR lessen or altogether remove that 'tunnel vision' thing that usually comes with cockpit view?
