Ah, you're absolutely right.

As happens, I'm in the Red Forest now. The location is really creepy, especially with that "chorus" ambient. Killed the "psycho dog" without any crash, the projections disappeared instantly, it's kind of grey (actually black/whitish) coloured pseudo-dog. Only one such thing is encountered so far, but I haven't explored all the forest yet.
PS: Yes, there is only one psycho dog, at least pre X-19.
What's in the forest:
5-10 snorks, about 10 zombie stalkers, 1 psycho dog + about 3 pseudo dogs. That's all, it's not that dangerous as people usually picture it ;)

I'm not sure about this, because I haven't done the mission myself, but I've heard that one of the missions given by Voronin, which is to destroy the pseudodogs in the Army Warehouses, involves killing one of such 'psychic' pseudodogs.

I've done all mission for Voronin (he said I have no missions for now, before that I've done about 20 I think) before I went to Red Forest, maybe he (as well as Lukash) starts to propose other missions only after X19...
BTW, does anybody know if Voronin/Lukash gives any missions in Red Forest and beyond? Perhaps after X19?

I don't remember any other "psycho" dogs than the one in the Red Forest... Or maybe if it's in the Wild Territory, it can easily get killed by somebody else and I just didn't get to see one.. ;)
And killing the psycho dog crashes the game before the latest patch, yes. Update and it's finally killable. ;)

Under the 'Local Folklore' there are several interesting stories, and a few of them mention some strange creature called the 'Illusionist'. I guess it's some creature that ended up not making it into the final game.
Judging by the story the thing had to be even more frightful than Controller. Maybe it's just me but I find the Controllers really frightful, not because of damage they can do, but because of way they look and move and that 'pull' effect I think.

I find it's what they do to your head and the noises you hear. The one in the bloodsucker village doesn't do the pull attack and doesn't really seem to be able to hurt you much at all - you can just run right up to it and unload a mag or two into it's face without taking any damage yourself, which is a bit of a let down considering how rare they are and how much the first one can kick your arse if you give it half a chance.

The one in X16 is very deadly too.
I wrote about my encounter with the village controller - he frightened me because he appeared very unexpectedly - no pull attacks. I was in a house though, maybe walls were obstacles for that.
I read after bardak's fix there should be 2 more controllers, in Pripyat - area of kindergarten and bus station.
D'Arcy on 14/11/2007 at 16:42
The bus station is already dangerous enough. High radiation inside, and the only place in Pripyat where Military Stalkers show up.
Trappin on 14/11/2007 at 22:36
The bus station is next to the helicopter crash site right? thats a really fun spot for target practice and loot farming. There's also an anomaly in that area that shreds stalkers into chunks of bloody meat and bone. Very brutal.
