Is there a reason for the washed out "yellowish" look that I come across periodically in the game?

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f47/Clockthief/RedForest.jpgI've shut down STALKER and started up again thinking I had video card issues, but nothing has changed. Other games aren't affected so I don't think my computer is causing it.
I'm thinking it means something and is deliberate. But I can't find reference in the booklet or on the forum.

That's the colour of your brain boiling.

Are you serious?
I know it makes some kind of sense seeing as I'm going to the "Brain Scorcher", but when I get killed, for instance, the colors all go back to normal, and I don't know if all this yellow coloration is scripted.

It's not "scripted" per say. The more time you spend in areas in which there are mental effects on you, the more amplified the effect. The same thing is experienced in Yantar to a lesser degree (colors become more and more monochrome), which makes sense, seeing as how Yantar was where they were developing the technology behind the actual brain scorcher .
So yes, the coloration is a part of the game.

Interesting choice of weapons and artifacts for that part of the game...

The pulsing sound of the antennae array and odd visual distortions make this one of the most exciting sections of the game. :thumb:

Thanks. The booklet that comes with the game doesn't mention this at all, so I needed to be sure this wasn't a problem on my end of things.

LOL
This is my first run through, so I'm in a hurry and not taking the time to learn the artifacts. When I first started, I actually died because I had one of these things on me, so I decided to have nothing to do with them.
That's not my preferred primary weapon I was carrying at the time (the fast shooting AK47/2). The weapon I mostly use here is a kick-ass Vintar BC, which has a sniper scope that is half decent. But I have to scrimp on using the ammo.

Funny, how didn't you understand that was the Kaimanov's emitter effect is beyond me :joke:. Scientists in Yantar told you about the emitters and that you need a special device to weaken their effect. Also, take notice the effect is accompanied by voices 'in your head'. The effects are present in locations where emitters are built.

However there is a strange hallucinatory effect present in Red Forrest area even after you turn off the transmitter. In the middle of the map in the wood, if you cross some point you will be eventually affected by hallucinations of pseudodogs who can really hurt you (unlike the yellow glowing hallucinations of various creatures that you encounter on your first way to the brain scorcher). And the screen is getting blue instead of yellow - in any case it's a different kind of brain control effect than the normal one in Yantar and near the Brain Scorcher.
WTF?
