It looks like Warren Spector's new game is going to be based on the Source Engine and be distributed by Steam... any reactions?

And this doesn't really have anything to do with Deus Ex.

Dude, didn't you know that Warren is Deus Ex and Deus Ex is Warren? I can't wait for Deus Spector's next game, I hope it will be like that good Deus Ex game and not like that not so good Deus Ex game.

Deus Ex is Warren, but Warren is not Deus Ex. This link has nothing to do with Deus Ex.

True, but you can't blame DX fans (read: addicts) from hoping that Warren will use his amazing superpowers to do good (read:
worthy sequel). I don't think Warren even owns the rights to the DX name anymore, aside from his ability to take credit for it. The only way we'll see a game which uses the DX name, or its characters, is if Eidos (they are the current owner of the DX name now, right? Correct me if I'm wrong) decides to do it. Without Warren (and, IMHO, 7Crows), Invisible War failed to impress. In short... unless Warren gains rights to use the DX name or characters, we probably won't see any worthy DX games.

I was being sarcastic, but I guess I didn't sound dumb enough to seem out-of-the-usual for gamer-babble.
Who is 7Crows?
moop on 4/12/2005 at 01:44
7 Crows is the name of the company which wrote the script for Deus Ex. The people from 7 Crows involved with Deus Ex were Chris Todd, Sheldon Pacotti and Austin Grossman (which I mentioned in another thread recently). What isn't so clear is whether, or the degree to which, they collaborated with Warren Spector on the overall plot of the game, or whether they fleshed out the world with dialog with an existing premise or outline from Warren.

I never had any problems with Steam, and in principle I'm very much behind the idea of online distribution, but I'm not without reservations about it. Though really I'm far more interested in getting some hint of what his game is actually about...

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that (
http://www.7crows.com/) 7 Crows was Chris Todd's company, I don't think Pacotti or Grossman were part of it. I think Todd wrote the in-game texts (newspapers etc.) and a couple of cutscene scripts, while Pacotti and Grossman wrote the dialogue. I vaguely recall an interview with Pacotti where he stated that the story and concept of Deus Ex had already been completed before he came on board, he fleshed it out. I don't know, it seems clear it was a collaborative effort.
