Waaaa... Thief Gold - by Chewbubba

So, I was thinking a few days ago, "Man, it would be fun to play through the Thief series again", so I installed Thief Gold last night and started working through the FAQ to get it up and running.
Then I ran across the bit about Nvidia chipsets with drivers 9x.xx... that's me. :(
Is there any hope at all for getting TG to work on my box without going backwards in video drivers?
My Specs:
Windows XP pro sp3
ram 1 gb
nvidia GeForce 7950GT (driver 91.something-or-other)
I did the force NT install, and I've tried ddfix - both the GUI and the manual install. The training level loads, and then the whole thing locks up with a black screen (in a window). I have to alt-tab out of it or ctrl-alt-del.

Wrong forum, Bubba.
DO you have a dual core processor? If so, have you tried the dual core fix?

Drat. I almost posted in the Thief Discussion forum and I thought, "No, that's the wrong one." Then I posted it here. :erm:

Yes, and yes. I forgot about that in the previous post. I tried RunFirst and alt-tabbing out of the menu to set the affinity. :(

Does DDFix also address the multicore/hyperthreading issue?
[btw, if a mod wants to move this thread to the correct forum, that'd be fine]

The best place for this thread would have been in the forum right below this one; Legacy Gaming Technical Help. But at least you were close.
Yes, DDFix does include a hyperthreading fix, but I can't remember if it's enabled by default. Open up ddfix.ini and the variable that turns it on should be clearly marked. A zero value is off, a one value is on.

I uninstalled Thief Gold and reinstalled it. I ran DDfix, but I still get the same results.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I finally had some time and was reading through the backlog of threads in the other forum and came across this:
(

Inserting a _ into the name of the exe so it reads thief_.exe.
It seemed totally crazy to me, but I was desperate,
and it worked!!!!!Woohoo!

...what?
That's probably the strangest fix I've ever heard of. But...well, at least it works.
