Looks like stained glass to me? But it has added a bit of more detail to it yes, that's also kind of the idea, to make materials a bit more recognizable. There are many floors (for example) in the game where you can't really make out what its supposed to be, is it stone, is it a floor of small twigs.. i often look at the texture name or folder name to try to make sense of it when generating. The final image will have much more detail than the original texture and it will look like the actual material its supposed to represent.
Oh, and it's not upscaling. It's doing a new image entirely, but yes it does trace the original image.

There are some other oddities, at least when playing the OMs:
* the sewer hatch texture is now an ornate wooden door with a smaller door set into it
* a few stone and wood textures don't tile properly anymore, creating seams
* a couple wood textures seem to be turned 90* creating odd plank lines
* the metal floor tile with criss-cross design has been interpreted as damaged/weathered, making them all appear to oddly have the same damage/weathering
* personal opinion: the gold candlestick holders are too dark, they just look brown

you're right the gears are a bit too squashed in some places.

you probably aren't using the latest pack, as the candle objects were removed completely in 0.9b (were broken/just not looking too great).

I can't think of any reason to do that. Basically, DXT should always include mipmaps. If that causes crashes, you may be hitting the 2GB limit.

Good to know.
The mod now only uses 1024 as max resolution too. Seems like textures should never be 2048, this causes issues.
Lots of fixes + more textures in next update, i'll try to upload it later today.
