Hi,
brand new here and pretty much a Thief neophyte. When I was installing Thief 2x it asked me to install vp3. When I clicked yes my malware detector (Malwarebytes) flashed a warning that said vp3.exe is a trojan. Is this true? Is it safe to install vp3?
I hope I don't appear to be too much of a dumbass :o)
Thanks for the help.

VP3 is the video codec needed to play the Thief2x intro, cutscenes and outro. In itself it isn't malware, but malware could pose to be just about anything, including a VP3 codec installer..
Most malware detectors use (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristic) heuristic methods to identify evil intentions. The problem with heuristics is that they are not precise and can produce false positives. Which could be the case here too.
Assuming you downloaded thief2x from this page:

(or one of the mirrors specified on that page) you can be pretty sure that the installer located in the t2x/vp3 folder is not malware. So you should be safe to execute it.
