And I would do that...why?

Ummm... the only poll question I see at that link is "Are you male or female?".

Getting people to lie won't change the fact that there are no girls on the Internet.

I have the view that Shodan isn't Male or Female, although obviously a female voice is used. I'm pretty sure the SS1 manual contains a quote or two discussing attributing human gender to an AI.
In any event, assuming it's intended to swing the poll towards the female end, It'd take over 600 votes from ourselves to make a 1% difference.

In SS1, Shodan is referred to as male. In SS2, Shodan is referred to as female. I tend to go with the latter, because even though her voice is rather deep, it's still the voice of a woman.
Interestingly enough, even Shodan doesn't seem to be sure; she refers to herself as "god" in SS1, which is normally a male term, and in some cut dialog from SS2, she says she's a "goddess" (which is also what TB says in the intro).

SHODAN isn't always referred to as male in SS1. It's ambiguous. In some logs it's referred to as male, and in others as female.
Because the first times I played Shock, I played the floppy disk version, until I got to play the enhanced CD version I always thought of SHODAN as male, because the mumblings we heard whenever she interrupted a transmission from Earth sounded like a male voice.

I noticed this as well [that ss1 keeps the gender questionable]. As time went on however, it seems clear to me that there was a shift towards her being female with the choice of Rebecca as a host at the end of ss2 sealing the deal. I suspect this choice was driven by testosterone more than anything. It would have been more interesting if they'd chosen a male host for Shodan, particularly if the voice acting continued to remain mostly female. It'd give players something to think about.

I'm surprised by how many male AI there are in fiction, in the real world it's far more common to find a Bitching Betty than a Bothering Brian- something to do with both sexes paying more attention to a female voice rather than a male one.
In any case the SS2 class Shodan is pretty clearly female.

Reading that a vague memory from a SciFi-Horror film from the 90's popped into my mind - funny I could remember the name
and find the exact scene on (
