Why do people think less RAM usage is good? RAM is there to be used. If there's nothing to put in it, fine, but if the pagefile is non-empty and RAM isn't maxed out, you're wasting it.
As long as there's any usable RAM left, there's nothing wrong. Virtual memory made RAM usage a meaningless measurement.
Vista is slightly more predisposed to use RAM before pagefile than previous Windows versions. This means RAM usage will generally be a lot higher and pagefile usage will generally be a lot lower. Reducing the amount of paging improves the speed of the OS, since page faults will happen less often requiring fewer disk reads.

Because people would rather use the available RAM for applications than the OS. With more RAM used by the OS less is left for applications to use and virtual memory is a slow substitute.

It depends what you mean by "using" RAM. If Vista is filling up RAM with its own stuff, this is bad for performance. If it is allocating RAM for caching (like Linux does) this should improve performance.

Only if you want to actually do more with your computer than watch it load.

I tried downloading the 32 bit version with firefox and the download stopped at 2 gigabytes. Then I tried with the microsoft download manager, and it didn't even allocate. And then I found this torrent that came out 3 days ago (

It's really good.

So, David, is the theme on your screenshot one of the default ones? Because if so, Microsoft have my respect for finally hiring people who know that a good theme doesn't consist of oversaturated, clashing colors and widgets the size of Seattle.

Yeah, it is the default theme with one of the default colour options (Frost)

Does anyone know how to get the white glow behind the text in the titlebar of a window to go away? It annoys the jesus out of me. More over, there used to be an area where you could set the default icon Explorer uses for each type of whatever, meaning you could change the way folders look. Those new vanilla folders are ugly, but it also comes with blue folders which look ace and I'm trying to figure out how to make those the default.
And is anyone else experiencing major incompatability problems? Maybe cause I did an upgrade instead of a clean install? But almost everything is broken. 3/10 programs run. I need to get AutoCAD workng again before tomorrow. -_-

I wouldn't hold my breath though. After all, the Whistler theme looks decent too, and they replaced it with Luna just prior to release.

So how buggy is it at this point? I managed to grab the 32bit download, but I'm hesitant to install it on my primary (and only) computer.
