So.. I must be blind because I can't find a post about Windows Vista's beta yet, or no one here cares about it. Anyway... anyone tried it yet? And if so, how's it working (I havn't tried it yet because I don't have a dvd burner.. have to wait until saturday)? Here's a link if you're interested: (

(
http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/beta2/en/x64/download.htm) Here's an almost direct link. Just select either x64 or x86 under "use your own download manager" and you're set.
I'll have it in 3 hours and 10 minutes, but I won't get around to burning and installing it til tomorrow. Once I get it up and running I'll have a nice writeup on what I think.

Can't install due to lack of support for Promise SATA controller. Good start..

I already know I'm gonna have problems with my old Soundblaster Live. I might just go ahead and hook up my cheapass onboard soundcard to compensate.
Who knows, it might actually be better than what I'm using now.

I finished downloading the x86 build overnight and shall be trying it tonight. I would have gone for the x64 build but the download server I kept getting connected to was only reporting it as 13MB, which is obviously not right. :erg:

:weird: 64-bit allows for some extreme compression techniques.
Does this version have DRM?

Are these public betas timelimited or restricted in some way, or could you theoretically go on using them indefinitely?
I don't understand people's motivation to perform free beta testing for Microsoft, unless there is some incentive such as a free copy of the released Vista for everyone who submits a bugreport that gets fixed in the final version.

These betas are due to timebomb in June 2007, which is plenty of time.
I'm testing Vista for the same reasons I tested XP in beta - it is interesting to see how OSs take shape and work out how to develop applications for them, utilising any new features (they've all been taken out of Vista) before the hit the shelves.

You guys apparently have way too powerful machines if you're so impatient to try out Vista. :weird:

Damn, power went out last night and I lost it at 15 minutes to go. I'm trying to get it again, but I'm getting denied access to the download. :(
