Vista - SS2 Crashes when loading a saved game but...

Hello. I am running SS2 on a vista laptop. The game runs fine but I have just one annoying problem which is...I can't load a saved game from the top slots on the load game screen. I can, however, load a game from the bottom field on the load game screen. I'll save in one of the top slots, load it, and then restart the game after it crashes. After restarting, the saved game will be listed in the bottom load slot and will load normaly if selected. Extremely annoying! Has anyone else come across this problem and is there a fix for it?

I am using the 2.3 no-cd executable. I am forced to use since the game will not recognize my disc when inserted.

Other than the problem mentioned above everything works great.

I suggest you install the game via (http://www.systemshock.org/index.php/topic,106.0.html) ss2tool

just leave the options at default,and let ss2tool do all the work for you.that should take care of all weird stuff.
