It was a new boxed retail version that says "New Release!" on the front.

To kick Vista out of the equation I installed XP on another partition and tried reinstalling T3. Still no difference at all.
Symptom recap:
Install T3 with no errors.
Set processor affinity to one of the 4.
Start T3.
I get the C++ Runtime error.
The mouse cursor changes to an active CD icon until manually setting the mouse pointers back - or restarting.
The CD drive no longer ejects except by "force" (inserting a paper clip in the manual ejection hole) or restarting the PC.
Tried setting the processor affinity to each of the other 3 - no difference.
Just for fun I installed it on an older Dell, single-CPU P4 running Windows XP and T3 runs with no problem.
It doesn't make sense - the C++ Runtime error is essentially immediate. T3 bombs out on my HP so fast that I doubt it gets a chance to start loading any drivers..
Any suggestions???

Hmmm, well it helps that you have tried it on xp on that pc and on another pc aswell. Have you google'd the C++ error or is it one of those useless non informative errors...?
Also what Antivirus/antispyware/firewall software (i read furthar down your using trend av..?) can you uninstall/disable the above so all you have is Windows Xp/Vista and see if you get the error.

I've eliminated all non-essential software/services - no change.
I've installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86), Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) SP!, and then Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86). No change with any of them.
I've updated my video driver to nVidia's latest - 175.16 beta - no change.
Out of desperation I even tried starting in Safe Mode to see if I could even get a different error message - no change.
One thought, might it be that my CD is SATA have something to do with it? If so, are there any other methods that might work with T3 so I could try it as a test? :nono: :tsktsk: :eww: :erg:

Since I'm not even getting to the first "EIDOS" screen, Are there and command-line switches to bypass these and go straight to either the "Main Menu" or directly load a saved game?

Hi, sorry about the necromancy, but I am experiencing a slightly different problem of the same type. I am trying to buy a retail copy of Deadly Shadows on a new Vista laptop, with an intel core 2 duo processor 2ghz, with 3 gigs of ram.
It doesn't have a graphics card, but it shares memory. This is the info I could scrounge on the graphics hardware:
Operating System: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium* , (6.0.6000)
Default Language: English
DirectX* Version: 10.0
Physical Memory: 3061 MB
Minimum Graphics Memory: 8 MB
Maximum Graphics Memory: 358 MB
Graphics Memory in Use: 203 MB
Processor: x86 family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13
Processor Speed: 1994 MHZ
Vendor ID: 8086
Device ID: 2A02
Device Revision: 0C
And finally, to the problem: I load thief 3, and it is all good until I hit new game, and then start, and it crashes once it has completed loading, this is the error displayed...

I admit that I am completely hopeless at this kind of thing, and I was just hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
Cheers

Hi bcuda/Ecles
As you both have legitimate copies of the game drop me a Pm with yer email and I will send you my fixed T3 and Tmain .exe's which have been dualcore/n*cd fixed. Hopefully this should fix the downright unacceptable errors your both getting.
