What all of you have shared is all fine and well - if it applies. However, unless I'M missing something, ya'll seem to be missing something:
The instructions for the multiprocessor issue describe copying the imagecfg.exe to the %windir%\system32 and %windir%\system32\dllcache folder. (Ahem) there doesn't seem to be a dllcache folder in Vista.
Also, the error I'm getting immediately after trying to start Thief3 isn't addressed here - from what I've been able to find - or not:
The window header is labled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library".
The window's content is:
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\ Thief - Deadly Shadows\System\t3.exe

abnormal program termination
There is nothing in the Event Logs associated with this.
Sorry if the answer's already here somewhere, but I DID look...
BTW, I'm trying to install it on my HP9177c, 2.67 Quad-Core, 3GB RAM, 200GB+ available drive space, GeForce 8800 GTX (ForceWare ver. 169.44).
Thanks in advance for any help - it's much appreciated.

We're still awaiting a solution ourselves. There have been more questions than answers, and as soon as someone submits a solution that is verified to work, and is fairly reliable, than it will likely be added to the FAQ.
So yeah, you're not alone, but there's been relatively little help as of yet.:erg: (

I was not able to run Thief DS under Vista in anyway. I PM a few ones that do run it under Vista, but no one seemed to help me at all. This changed 2 day ago! I found a solution that worked for me from this thread in the Eidos forums: (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=66078). I tried to turn the DEP off and Thief DS actually ran under Vista. And till now I’ve applied a few tweaks and it runs ok. The interesting thing is that the game Homeworld 2 did not run under Vista and after disabling DEP it started as well.

I've determined the cause of your problem.
You're running Vista.

One definition of "Vista" is "a distant view". With that in mind, it seems like MS is missing a lot of stuff that's right in from of their geeky faces!

Thanks for your offer -
I'm running Vista Home Premium - SP1.
I receive no errors for any other games or applications.
I've tried installing, then reinstalling, then patching with 1.1.
I've tried uninstalling, then reinstalling, then patching with 1.1.
I've tried installing it in the default installation folders and abbreviated 8.3 compliant folders.
I've tried running it under various compatability modes.
After running a full malware scan with clean results, I've tried turning off Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 and repeated the steps above.
I've added T3.exe as a DEP exemption.
Nothing I've done makes any difference.
Observations:
1. There appears to be no Event Log entries associated with the error.
2. When I try to start T3, the mouse cursor changes to what looks like and active CD icon.
3. After trying to run T3 and it bombs, the DVD doesn't eject via the switch or software - even after 60 seconds. Once this happens, the drive must be manually opened and closed for any disc until I restart. Manual ejection doesn't reset this behavior - only a reboot does. There are no other problems with the drive for any other games or applicatons.
4. After a reinstallation of T3, the first time I try to run it the error takes a few seconds to pop up. All subsequent times - the error is virtually immediate.
5. Regardless of anything I've done, I always get the same error.
Any ideas on what next?

My prior wasn't entirely correct about a clean malware scan. When I try to run T3 with Trend enabled, Trend detects the following:
"TROJ_Generic.ADV" "C:\Windows\system32\CmdLineExt03.dll"
"PAK_Generic.001" "C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Local\Temp\SIntf32.dll"
"PAK_Generic.001" "C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Local\Temp\SIntfNT.dll"
These 3 files are created when I try to run T3. When deleted, they are recreated the next time I try to run T3.
One other thing - I receive no errors during installation.

This is exactly why I've stayed with windows XP. Microsoft screwed the pooch with windows vista, and until A. it gets sorted out with a subsequent service pack, or B. They release a new operating system that actually works correctly, I'm staying Away.

Thief - Deadly Shadows ran right away under Vista Business 64-bit with me; it ran fine with the 1.1 patch and JohnP.'s texture pack as well; there was no need to set a core affinity or change DEP whatsoever (and the latter is ON).
*Check if you have the right drivers, nVidia download says this for GF8800GTX:
For Vista 32-bit 174.74
For Vista 64-bit 169.25
(so it doesn't suggest the 169.44). I've got the 169.25 one for a GF8800GT.
*If you get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error, perhaps try an installation of the MSV C++ Runtime. I don't have experience with this though, perhaps somebody else can tell that the error hasn't got anything to do with the redistributable. I know I've got the 2005 version, thanks to Futuremarks 3DMark06. It can probably be found somewhere [32-bit version: (
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en) Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86).
*I don't have Service Pack 1 installed; I don't know whether can be uninstalled, it might help. SP1 is said to cause trouble.
*Make sure you've got the latest, supported sounddrivers..
*Lastly, I also have a partition with WinXP 32-bit - if you've got enough free space and know how to do it, that could be a solution.
