Virualdub sound & video out of sync after converting some Vob files... - by operaghost

I'm gonna be doing a lot of traveling for work, moving when and where I'm told, and wanted to add some movies to my Ipod, I've been using Virtualdub for resize and WinAvi to convert it to Ipod's format.
I really like VirtualDub's control and cropping/resizing features, and in general, Virtualdub is consistent. But some of the newer DVD'v vob files don't convert correctly; I can rip OK but once I try to convert the vob in Virtualdub, video & audio syncing goes out.
What program should I try? Are there any good ones that will encode the subtitles into the video as well?

You could try (
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) MediaCoder. I use it to convert between different video formats quite often and it never have failed on me. Results are good if you have time to adjust its conversion options.

I use 2 programs for VOBs.
The first I use is Nero Vision (part of the Nero 7 or 8 suite), which merges the VOBs into 1 file. Not sure if you have Nero, but it's a really nice program.
Then I use (
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/) Videora iPod Converter. It makes the .mp4 (?) file out of your Nero results. This videora program converts almost any video to iPod video. I use it mostly to watch television shows that I record while I'm sleeping. I used to van pool to work, and it was a good time to catch up on shit. If you don't want to buy Nero, this free program will do all your VOB files, no problem, just make sure you title the results so you can get to each "chapter" of your movie. They play great on the iPod video by the way.
