I'm curious as to the number of people who actually use the ER as a way to escape a ticket. Heretic claims that it happens 'all the time', but I'm skeptical.
Just to clarify, I meant the
excuse "I'm on my way to the hospital/ER!" is used all of the time. That doesn't mean they always wait until the hospital parking lot to pull over.

In which case, you escort them to the hospital. I find it unlikely that someone within two blocks of the ER would use it as an excuse while standing in the ER drive, because they know the cop is going to verify that there's an actual emergency.

Thankfully, most cops just aren't that gullible.
That may or may not apply to the particular incident we've been discussing.

Interesting that she was focused on getting him a wheelchair, not his mysterious condition. Too ambiguous and not nearly as effective as stating the nature of the emergency. Must've been something embarrassing.

You hit the nail on the head.
Sure it's speculation, but that certainly seems to indicate that even if they actually had business there it was not an emergency, and hardly reason enough to disregard the law.

Thankfully, they are also capable of making life or death diagnostics with one glance through a back window.

We covered that pages back. Don't take my word for it, actually read the thread and see for yourself.

Yes, we covered it and concluded that the cop was in no position to conclude that the guy was allright.

Nor did the supposed necessity to do so trump other actions which took priority at the time of the incident.
Interesting article jtr7. It seems odd that he could be found guilty of resisting and obstruction but not the assault.
I thought this passage particularly telling:
"Although the maximum penalty on the resisting and obstructing conviction is increased to 15 years
because of a habitual offender, fourth offense sentencing enhancement, the state’s sentencing guidelines make it unlikely that Reggie Burks will receive a prison sentence on the conviction, Beach said."
