I tried the "no_unload_ffmpeg" line both with and without the semicolon--no change. I am about ready to delete the whole installation and start over again.

edit lg.ini and set CrashDump=4
that will produce full crashdumps, make the game crash, zip the file again and post the link.

looks like maybe something audio related - try different audio acceleration modes, perhaps also try different settings on your audio card. and no compatibility modes.

sure... I'm using a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme card. Disabling the "Sound Blaster Enhancements" option stopped the crashes.

seems like dedicated sound chips indeed are more trouble than it's worth these days.
