Hi... posting this for one of my friends tryin to run the game, he's using winXP, and a 7600GT running dual monitors... and he gets the "your video card is not supported" error when it should be trying to load the first map (he gets through the menu). Any known issues with new geforce cards/drivers or dual monitor setups? the "safe_texture_manager" idea didn't work... Any suggestions would be wonderous... really hopin to coop this game!
his primary monitor is a widescreen LCD.
thanksss

Try disable the secondary monitor, seems like the only thing that could be wrong if he isn't using 8+ years old video drivers.

afraid that didn't work... any other suggestions anyone?... or does it seem we're doomed :(

I have a feeling your friend has got a "user.cfg.txt" flying around in his game dir...
He should make sure he's got the windows feature "hide known file extensions" disabled. Then via notepad insert the line safe_texture_manager at the end of user.cfg or cam.cfg and ensure it gets saved with the .cfg extension.

it's a no-go :( he says when he uses that command fix, it won't even make it to the game menu... oh well, thanks!
new and better technology... :nono: lol

The new and better technology is working fine for me and probably most others.
Your problem is an odd one I have to admit.
If you don't even see the screen go black at all, after attempting to run the game, the below are possible reasons.
1) Faulty codecs. Try rename the cutscenes folder and/or the lgvid.ax file.
2) Antivirus program, just turn it off and try run the game.
3) SecuROM related, either use a no CD patch or unwrap the game yourself. This is against the rules so you'll have to find these things out yourself.
4) Try use compatibility mode, I suggest that you try all the modes.

Highly unlikely, since SS2 uses SafeDisc.

Woops, confused the names. :o
But the solution is still the same.

We give up... he may have access to an older PC in the near future, so if he does then we'll probably just hook it up with that...
Thanks for the help guys!

So, did you try those 4 hints I wrote above? They could work under any situations, not neccesarily only when the game doesn't start at all.
