yup, this will either then point toward the gfx driver or thief...

I installed another copy of Thief just to test and it does the same thing with just plain "vanilla" Thief 2, as you put it so I didn't bother adding in the patches. I'll get my husband to try installing older drivers this weekend to see if that fixes anything.

Thanks for the suggestion but since I've just bought the other one, I'll stick with it. I've yet to try downgrading the drivers so I've gotten used to adjusting the gamma every time I go back in game. At least it works!
We plan to build a new computer for my husband soon and I'll inherit his, which is only a year old and seems to play Thief quite well. Then this one will become my "backup" computer. :)
