Isn't it usually just 2 without the space though? To separate the quote from the reply a little bit? Or does the closing bracket handle that?

They both render the same for me.

With one.

Is there any chance of an increase in contrast between the "(Hot thread with|Contains) unread posts" and "(Hot thread with|Contains) no unread posts" icons shown on the forum threads view? The unread/no unread icons are so visually/chromatically similar that visually distinguishing between them rapidly is not easy.

Um, why are you looking at the icons and not the little "(go to first) unread post" button between the thread icon and the thread title? If it's there, then there are new posts; otherwise, there aren't.

Frankly? Habit. And the - admittedly naive - belief that if an icon is present for some stated reason, it should actually be usable for that reason.
I see the thread status icon before the button and - because I'm in the habit of looking at the status icons on forums where said icons have sufficient visual differentiation to be usable - I unconsciously skip threads that have the unread posts button because my brain has already classified the thread as not including new posts because the status icon for one with new posts is nigh-identical to one without.
With practice I should be able to train myself to scan for the unread posts button instead of looking at the status icons, but I strongly suspect before I get to that point I'll be rewriting the icon URLs in my proxy to point to actually useful ones.
(also, is an 'undread post' one that you don't dread, or one that removes your dread? ;) )

Fair enough. I've got used to looking for the unread post icon on various forums. Dave will probably get around to fixing those ugly icons eventually. He said before that the main reason they look so bad is because they were originally much larger and he scaled them down to make the forum more compact.

It's a post which has unread posts in it, and isn't dead. So you can open it without the dread of being bored by a thread you've already read.

Heheh. I needed that chuckle, thanks ;)

Why do certain posts (such as the one immediately above) have the has_ad style applied? I assume it's something to do with ad blocking, but the 300 pixel right-margin causes the post to be squashed up.
Edit: OK, must be something slightly deeper. My post stripped that style from The Watcher's post.
Nameless Voice on 25/2/2010 at 22:59
Well spotted. The has_ad class is what's causing the last post of every thread to be much narrower than it should be.

I can upload attachments from the web, but not from my PC. Is this going to be fixed? The attachment perk for contributing is kinda useless if you can't upload from your PC.

Well, I can no longer use the file attachment feature. I can get to it, but not upload anything. The following screen shot (hosted off of TTLG) shows what I see. I can select the file on my machine using "SelectFiles", but nothing lets me drag it to the area indicated and the +Add Files button does nothing that I can see.
