David on 7/10/2005 at 16:09
What?
Vlad Midnight on 7/10/2005 at 16:53
Whats hard about that, if you tried it youll see what I mean.
reply > click world with chain underneath it
script prompt > enter the URL of your link > OK
no option for text overlay anymore only manual.
Used to ask text for your link
THEN asked for your link. (or vice versa)
David on 7/10/2005 at 16:57
Tried what exactly?
You need to explain what you're trying to do. Load of unconnected giberish isn't helpful when you're having a problem or a question.
It sounds like you're talking about the links button on the standard editor. Please bear in mind that not everyone uses that load of bollocks and prefers to enter code manually before rolling your eyes like a goodun.
Anyway, the links button was changed so it behaved more like the way a Microsoft Office application inserts a hyperlink. You need to select the word you want to become a hyperlink and then click the link button.
[edit]Excellent, I see the  have gone and some actual instructions have appeared[/edit]

Calm down David:sweat: I dont know how else to explain it. I edited that rolleyes out one minute after post:erm: (not a good idea)
The Insert Link under the Message? Maybe its an IE thing?
Havent you seen something like
Screenshots are (
www.ttlg.com/screenshots) here
Now for non advanced users it would appear like
Screenshots are (
www.ttlg.com/screenshots) www.ttlg.com/screenshots
"[URL***="www.ttlg.com/screenshots]www.ttlg.com/screenshots"
"[URL***="www.ttlg.com/screenshots]here"
ignore the ***
I had to change the (
www.ttlg.com/screenshots) to here manually
Maybe you never did links?
I know for a fact that it asked for two bits of info when inputing links.
Edit again

Vlad translation:
Original: click 'Insert hyperlink', a box would ask you to type the text for the link, then another box would ask you to type the URL.
Now: only the second box appears; you have to highlight the text you want to become a link.

Step away from the keyboard David:) I need to preview post from now on. Ive always submitted and edited. 10 minute replies are common for me with multiple edits.
I thought thats what I said Matthew, but thanks for helping

No problem, I just thought it might be useful to have a third voice there.

Vlad: I think you're missing the point Dave was trying to make, which was that he knows what you're trying to describe and the original behavior was deliberately changed because it was a load of shit. The new way is a lot smarter.
If you have text selected and hit the link button, then that text will be wrapped in the URL you enter. If you hit the link button with no text selected, then the URL you enter will be used both as the link URL and the text (without prompting you for separate text). I assume you still have objections to the latter case, but you'll notice the other formatting controls no longer prompt you for text either like they used to, because that way was utter bollocks.
