(
http://regina.cs.washington.edu/cgi-bin/vanishservice.py)
A new service which you can install as a plugin, or use their webservice.
The idea is you encrypt a message so that anyone can read it, but only in the next 8 hours. After that it is lost to the winds of time forever.
This means you can avoid your torrid love-affair e-mails being found 15 years in the future etc.
I thought it was an interesting idea anyway.

Interesting idea (although your message didn't decode for me using the demo service).
Using P2P to distribute the key would probably be the biggest problem - from what I can see there's no absolute guarantee that your data will be available for the maximum length of time. Also, presumably there's a chance your security keys could be captured by nodes designed to capture (or harvest) enough pieces of the key.

Ah, I think it has been mangled by the forum posting. It worked fine when I copypasted it back into the box, but I guess pasting it from the post has broken it somehow.

I almost thought this was spam at first.

Well, Lets see what happens when it's been put into another post via quote and modified: "AKztAAVzcgBGZWR1Lndhc2hpbmd0b24uY3MudmFuaXNoLmludGVybmFsLm1ldGFkYXRhLmltcGwuRXBvY2hBd2FyZU1ldGFkYXRh SW1wbE1yiFVDGn2bAgACSgAMZXBvY2hfbGVuZ3RoTAAIbWV0YWRhdGF0ADVMZWR1L3dhc2hpbmd0b24vY3MvdmFuaXNoL2ludGVy bmFsL21ldGFkYXRhL01ldGFkYXRhO3hwAAAAAAG3dABzcgBHZWR1Lndhc2hpbmd0b24uY3MudmFuaXNoLmludGVybmFsLm1ldGFk YXRhLmltcGwuSW5kaXJlY3RLZXlNZXRhZGF0YUltcGw6bcmI6fsf7QIAAlsAEmVuY3J5cHRlZF9kYXRhX2tleXQAAltCTAAIbWV0 YWRhdGFxAH4AAXhwcHNyAEFlZHUud2FzaGluZ3Rvbi5jcy52YW5pc2guaW50ZXJuYWwubWV0YWRhdGEuaW1wbC5CYXNpY01ldGFk YXRhSW1wbNgVQUjt/E3XAgACSgANbG9jYXRpb25fc2VlZEwABnBhcmFtc3QANkxlZHUvd2FzaGluZ3Rvbi9jcy92YW5pc2gvaW50ZXJuYWwvbWV0YWRhd GEvVkRPUGFyYW1zO3hw2po6SAbyWn5zcgA0ZWR1Lndhc2hpbmd0b24uY3MudmFuaXNoLmludGVybmFsLm1ldGFkYXRhLlZET1Bhc mFtc7292Mmleh6MAgAISgALY3JlYXRpb25fdHNJABVlbmNyeXB0aW9uX2tleV9sZW5ndGhJAApudW1fc2hhcmVzSQAJdGhyZXNob 2xkSQAJdGltZW91dF9oSgAGdmRvX2lkTAAUZW5jcnlwdGlvbl9hbGdvcml0aG10ABJMamF2YS9sYW5nL1N0cmluZztMAA9lbmNye XB0aW9uX21vZGVxAH4ACnhwAAABIp4r1noAAACAAAAACgAAAAcAAAAIrdYE8CYYA0F0AANBRVN0AANDQkNimhxNWUa8eRKnA7mrd yn8FV7GQd0HcFUctQ3k/D09sdh0z6Z+ZbVa3vfLNpl4GXEtZM5aPSZtP+5cYgtW/z+iJP0S418oKa/4Cq8xBHnCGx3TDhSao001ANIH87fzvREDbR9PVqNPFdnhuMGKUUvAfMNgStzbIBO+eCGThGvtdbGdSxHyk6tCRLcxOglKe00WURE kwCJhzorwI+RtdTdp5rK6XK+tEf34bJBVA456Ovqf09mGBlbCS8V7J3gHsDceT6b4nMdl1ST+OnAxGsWkJ3khZlxNv12LiqpA/PQnUVf2nigE+JvNpQ2YLYN+lEEKS5cm+17eZ8tq406I1MF8"

Then there is the issue of end user copy/paste/notepad /whatever and saving your message or just doing a print screen/save as and it's going to stick around with someone else.
Interesting concept none the less

are you sure thats not spyware, looks like it is.
Al_B on 23/7/2009 at 17:30
No, it's a University of Washington research project. I think it's intended to demonstrate the principles involved, it's not really a commercial (or spyware) product.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought this was going to be about some kind of stain remover for dirty clothes.
I was dissapointed.:(
