It's not so much for location, as it it for atmosphere. I want to get a tiny inkling as to the place where some awesome music was made.
[Edit]
Can I handle bears? Can I handle bears?! I'm from the f*****g arctic circle! I live among the wild animals! The moose run rampant here! Can I handle bears?! I.. ...Umm... probably not.
You were saying..?

Visit Granville Island. Go to Bridges for lunch. Visit the Granville Island Brewery and get a case of GI beer. Walk the sea wall. Check out Lynn Canon. Rent a car and go to Horseshoe Bay and eat fish and chips at Trolls, then go down the street to a little bar (can't remember its name) where you will have very good beer and listen to the blues. Drive around the UBC campus, find Wreck Beach (clothing optional). Go to Benny's Bagels on West 4th for brunch; go to The Yale for drinks and more blues that evening, and eat at Kamakura (W. Broadway) for incredible sushi. Go shopping at Metrotown (take the skytrain from downtown). Take the gondola up to Grouse and take pics (or ski if you want)
I lived in Vancouver for 10 years. Don't live ther now. However, am visiting in April of this year. Its nice in April. Not so much rain.
Have fun!

Come to the Island! We have palm trees and our homeless never have to go indoors. Victoria is as far south as you can get in Western Canada and it rains less than half as much as Dampcouver. Sure they have better shopping but we have... other stuff....... that is nicer......
And not as much rain. Bring sunglases and a wind breaker.
But if you don't mind mildew on your CDs, Van's the place to be ;)

Man, Victoria's great if you like an alchemy of Small Town Feel with Big City Convienance that gets niether right.
Also it still rains, and is just as cloudy. Also there's nothing in Victoria that's not also in Vancouver. Except Government! Yay Government.
Also, the Olds.
Also, this is kinda off-topic from my retalitory dig at Victoria, but what's with all the damn Goths that hang out at like Douglas and... that mall downtown (Eatons/Bay Centre? Bay prolly) and the Chapters. It's like for all of two blocks with no obvious draw or source. It REALLY bugs me, it's like in a GTA game where a certain group of people will be present in one area and just completely dissapear and be non-represented in the rest of the city, or even four blocks down. WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE?! It freaked me out EVERY TIME.
Wow that got off topic... err... Victoria's weak, but I suppose it is nice in the summer, and there's some cute kitchsy architecture. (That real narrow alley comes to mind.)

And come to think of it, if you disregard the warnings, and come here anyways, you really should see both of the major Universities, here. The view from the top floors of SFU is the best look you'll get at the region, aside from an airplane.

Also, ALSO, the winter is so damn depressing, even if you like winter, Vancouver is NOT the place for it, no winter wonderland, just gray, cloudy, rainy, sad.
But but... I was really looking forward to applying for my university's student exchange program with the UBC :(. I like Canada. And I like snow. Canada - snow. Snow - Canada.
Maybe I should go to Australia instead?
But I really like snow. And Canada. :o
What about Saskatoon?

The best places to see are all mentioned. I was taken to pretty much of most of them when I first moved here.Ive been living in Vancouver a few months but I still get gawpish at the sight. I've been up to S.F.U , it's on the side of Burnaby mountain. You do get an almost panoramic view from a good height of the city and inlet.
I don't know how long you'll be in Vancouver but you should try to go to the west coast of the Island to Tofino and Long Beach. The beaches are pretty amazing and long with less people and you're facing open ocean.. If you go at Spring time you'd be in for some awesome storms there. Not sure about whale watching at that time, but possibly, if not likely though. Stay at the Wikininsh (sp) inn.

Oh, we've plenty of Canada, don't get me wrong, we're ALL about the Canada, just not much snow.
Though this year there was like, a week or so of snow? Some pretty heavy snow too, it was CRAZY.
But yeah, ususally no snow. UBC is a great school though.

Australia isn't really an option. I hate warm weather. It hates me. It's mutual.
Besides, there's so much culture invented in Vancouver I'd be a fool not to visit sooner or later. Preferrably sooner.
Thanks for all pointers. As I initially said, I'm still in the stage of making very vague plans. I really want to visit, when I can match funds and other circumstances.

If I'd visit in spring, could I rent a bike and happily pedal through sunshine? :D
Yes I do it all the time.
PM me and we can go for a beer, unless you are not old enough to drink beer legally.
Spring and fall are my best time, cool and crisp when the sun is out and I can ride all day with out sweating.
