On the XBox? Nope, you've gotta do it the hard way as far as I know; they have a random chance of infecting you with "Porphyric Hemophilia" every successful hit (it's called the same for all 3 clans). After that, wait a few days (3, I think) and the infection turns into vampirism.

Forsythe, when ( if) I become infected, it will say on the screen that I was infected, right. I am currently a Nord, so I am still able to be infected, right? Do they still have a random chance of infecting me while they're attacking with weapons?

Also, Forsythe, I'm currently in the vampire den that, going from Balmora, the hill that's behind the Morag Tong, you go over that hill, and you'll see a pond of slime, then almost directly across from that is the vampire den that I'm in. Now, that place houses vamps, but I just see myself getting killed but not infected. Why!?
Forsythe on 14/7/2002 at 03:00
Yup, I forget the exact syntax but it says something to the effect of "You've contracted Porphyric Hemophilia!". As to via a weapon, sorry, I don't remember; I just know I contracted it a couple times when I was attacked.
As to why you're just getting killed, they don't want to infect you, they don't want you as kin; if you do get infected and yet live, well, it's an unpleasant thing for them but they're willing to send you on quests as you're expendable. One person (I forget whom; sorry to whoever it was) suggested enchanting an item with a constant effect "restore health" spell and bulking up on armor; that way, you can get one to attack you and you'll survive it. Costs $$ to get the enchant and levels to get the armor though.

Forsythe, I killed one of the vampires, and she had something on her called vampire dust. What is that, and could it be combined with gravedust to turn me into a vampire without the work?
WingedKagouti on 14/7/2002 at 15:45
With 60 Alchemy you will be able to see all effects of an ingredient and thus you will be able to see that vampire dust is the only ingredient that has vampirism as an effect, which means that you can't make a potion that will turn you into a vampire. Vampire dust is however very valuable (500 gold each portion) and can be used for Fortify Strength potions if you fell the need for that.

Is there a way, at level 1, to go to the vampire hangout west of Balmora, and get diseased WITHOUT the vampires killing you?
Kilana on 14/7/2002 at 22:50
yes... if your extremely lucky, they'll infect you with their first hit, and you can quickly run away... lol.

Honestly man, your character probably isn't ready to become a vampire anyway. Many people will attack you on sight, (including GUARDS) and you aren't ready for that yet. It also makes it so you can't use any of the "fast travel" things(Mages, Silt Striders, or boats), and being that you are level one, your character is relativly slow, and you could easily get trapped out on the country side with the sun on the rise.
Biuld up your stats, and DEFINATELY get the boots of blinding speed, and a item with constant effect Levitate, before you should even consider going the vampire route. I waited 'till I had done pretty much everything else in the game before I changed, and now I'm damn glad I did. I can now kill everything I meet without worrrying about messing up a quest that I might want to do later.
Make sure you also have a seperate Save Game from before you where a Vampire, that you can always revert to if you decide to get out. Take a look at some of the bigger boards, and all the posts by angry people that wished they had.
P.S. Buy a Spell of "Weakness to Common disease", go to a spell maker, and have them change it so it effects "self". That greatly increases your chances of catching the disease while it's in effect.

You should also consider the fact that if your character is a mage and/or you want to create some enchanted items one day you won't be able to buy any spells from the general populace.
Remember also that at a low level you will be dependent on other people to repair your weapons and armour but as a vampire no one will repair your items and no one will sell you repair tools. Yes you can steal various things but that odd one or two repair tools will run out and when you do you'll have to use your fists and no armour.
The only way anyone will ever offer you services is by visiting your own vampire clan HQ but even then you'll have to prove yourself by performing various dangerous missions which at a low level will turn out to be impossible.
Try waiting until your level 10+ before becoming a vamp; by this level you may well have gained enough spells, skills and armour to make vamp life much easier.
This is an enchanted item all potential vampires should create before turning -
Amulet of Enhanced Abilities
Exquisite amulet enchanted with a golden saint's soul to give you constant affect Night eye @ 30% and water breathing.
This amulet will make a vamps life far easier and also add some of the more traditional vampire 'powers' which weren't included by the Morrowind designers.
Cheers :)
