I wonder, is this getting a re-release anytime soon, fully patched and fixed? And if not, how successful are the unofficial patches, anyone know?

The unofficial patch 1.8 was released not very long ago... you should try that one.
I finished the game for the second time last weekend (with 1.7) and it works much better than with the official patch. A brilliant game, even though the last few missions are quite boring. :erg:

I have to agree, the last missions are boring, but that could also depend on what you play. I went with Malkavian, and I horded 200 points before I spent them :cheeky: Just because I could...hehehe...

I've just finished replaying it for the second time and I had 1.5 patch installed. It doesn't improve performance (you need lots of RAM to do this) but it fixes a lot of things in gameplay.
But it has some downsides, like you can get that special katana earlier than before (even earlier than regular katana) and some quests are messed up. I recomend you to see what things each version of patch fixes and then choose which version to install.
Somebody recomended me to install version 1.4 because later versions just change things that autors of patch didn't like in game.
It's up to you to decide. I sugest you to ask around on official forum if there is such one.

I am playing this right now. I am on first of the final two missions playing as a Malkavian. Gotta love the Dementation feat. Sure helps when you need that extra firepower.
Anyone manage to do the cemetary quest as Malkavian? Even with a maxed out Firearms skill and having Ranged at level 8, I still can't keep the zombie hordes from breaking through. I guess I need Celerity which Malkavians don't have. Anyway, a fun quest even though I fail in the end. I just reload.

I loved the game, but the performance was so bad I couldn't finish it...I only have 512 MB RAM so it could take literally 5 minutes to load save games, bummer.

When Romero asked you to do that quest, you could have asked him if there is some other way to do that quest. Then he asks you to bring him a woman. You just have to go and pick up a hooker (don't know if you need good persuasion) and lead her to him.
That way even those that aren't good in combat can finish his quest.
Or if you're playing female character you could just sleep with him.
