I miss the days (all of 5 years ago ffs) when there would be like 10 new games on Steam a month instead of 500 a day.

As long as they have some controls built in to prevent children from having to look the other way (totally unrealistic for kids of any age) then I'm ok with it. I sometimes let my 7yo son play my steam link and don't want to have to monitor him the whole time to make sure that he doesn't see some porn game flash up.
Apart from that, I feel adults should be able to buy or view whatever they like (within reason of course). I just feel that this is probably Valve being forward thinking about potentially lucrative VR revenue streams. My view is that they should have clear demarcations between games & porn or whatever market they're after if that is the case to make it easier for their target audience.
Valve has been pivotal in helping preserve the PC platform as a viable source of revenue and reducing costs for the consumer, so it would be a shame to see them bring it into disrepute.

It does make me kinda curious as to how some countries are going to react once games with ingame imagery or topics that are considered sensitive or prohibited in that country. Germany and Nazi symbolism in particular.

Consider the alternative... Steam strongly regulating everything that goes into the store... What if their views don't align with yours?
Valve did regulate Steam quite heavily before Greenlight and back then getting onto the store was more or less seen as a Seal of High Quality for an indie developer. After Greenlight (and even more so after Direct) they got flooded with trading card farms and the service is now more of a crapshoot if you don't already have an established fanbase.

Old guy here out of the loop on this - is this actually a change or just some clarification of policy? Because for years I've seen posts complaining about the quality of games on steam.

Valve at least pretended to care about hatemongering content when it was brought to their attention (even though they do apparently have a game with a 14/88 achievement somewhere). They also blocked games from having nudity - except it was very selectively applied to anime styled games, and Witcher and Mafia and other western games seemed to be exempt. The loophole used by most of those games was by having an off-steam patch available to put the nudity back in.

Just a clarification, really.

Awww man, memories. THIS was my jam back in the day, none of that silly Quake or CS stuff. DOD 3.1 is where it was at. So many pointless allnighters...
Tribes 2 as cool too

As much as I love pixel-created boobs and naughty game content, I'd rather have Portal 3.
Pyrian on 9/6/2018 at 04:13
They should release Half-Life 3, Portal 3, and Left For Dead 3 in a box just called Three.
