Having heard some rather bad things about the demo and initial release I thought I'd give them the usual couple of months it takes after a game release to make it work properly - before buying dx2, so here I am with the ready patched 1.2 version - nice going actually, 2 patches already...
Unfortunately I still can't even start to play the game. The corporate logos fade in and out as normal, there's a loading bar that whips across the top of the screen at a fair old pace. Then what looks like the first frame of the menu appearing freezes on the screen for a few seconds before I get dropped back to my desktop without even Viktoria to keep me company.
Since it ran on my computer back at home on saturday (being home from university for the weekend I wanted to check it worked while I was still within range of the shop, probaby won't get back inside the "this dvd has a scratch the size of the grand canyon" return period) I can only assume it is some incompatibility with my machine here.

I can't remember what the one at home is, suffice it to say; the cpu is slower and the graphics card is an ATI of not particularly modern lineage.
From my albeit brief experience from playing at home, it seems dx2 has gone the same way as thief 3, load zones every few feet and cities that could fit into the average parking lot. The graphics look like they have the choice of being brilliant and slow, or worse than the original but fast enough to aim... hopefully this will be better once I get it running on this machine, but from what I've read on here so far, I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks to anyone who has any ideas,
