I understand that he's saying that NAP fiction lacks a certain something to make it dystopian fiction. I'm saying that "V for Vendetta" doesn't have that lack. "only the broadest caricatures of humanity will do for NAP fiction." I wouldn't consider any of the characters broad, they're certainly broader in the film than in the book, but such is the nature of the medium. "the antagonist is an elaborately drawn figure whose every flaw and feature fully consume the author's and audience's attention" Most definitely not present in either the film or the book.

Also, to me Brave New World seemed to be only partly a product of the government's policies as the citizens were rather complicit in the society.

and by extension the populace that allows that government to exist

just saw the movie and l loved it. l've never read the comic, though, so l'll have to go and read it to get some perspective. l thought it succeeded as a movie despite an astoundingly heavy-handed attempt at allegory [or whatever]. as with 'constantine'- which l haven't read yet, either- l was free of any history or expectations and was able to enjoy both films on their own lights. l found the whole superhuman element unnecessary and even contradictory to the film's message, but the last fight scene was pretty good. l've been a fan of steven rea's since 'crying game', so it was good to see him get a plum role like this.
on a side note, as soon as l saw creedy l knew l recognized him, and within a few scenes was able to identify him as tim piggot-smith. it was kind of depressing and even frightening to remember him as the fully-follicled redheaded captain merrick in 'the jewel in the crown' and as harry hamlin's sidekick in 'clash of the titans'. tempus fugit, indeed.

I saw this about a month ago and thought it was actually pretty well done. Nice acting, fairly concise story and a good overall atmosphere. Enjoyable, if slightly forgettable, tosh.

I really enjoyed it, but like Spitter, I'll be getting the comic instead of the DVD.
Not that I buy DVDs much anyway these days.

Low expectations
Also, Sypha, the buildings a splode to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, not Beethoven (though his 5th Symphony is playing when V confronts that dude in the greenhouse).

I saw it, I loved it, I made sure not to ever try to read the comic as to avoid hating it, makes watching movies a lot easier when you dont have ANY expectations.
