Interesting that you should note that Lethe's Black Sword does the most damage out of any of them when powered up. Last time I played through I used Fire Doom pretty much exclusively - per hit it may not do as much, but it has a good chance to cast Fireball each time it hits which messes most enemies up real bad. It's certainly a more efficient way to despatch foes than Lifestealer. Though, of course, you need to have a Flameproof handy ;) Fortunately those spells last quite a long time, so by the time you get Fire Doom you can probably cast it when you like.
