I just finished playing Ultima Underworld 2 and I'm wondering about some loose ends:
Does the key that Charles gives you open anything?
In the tomb, after you've fiddled with the water controls and you're in the north-east part of the map and there's a secret door with four buttons nearby - how does one open the door with the buttons? I had to bash my way through the door to get through and it didn't feel like it was a fulfilling way of solving the problem.
And in Mitch Aigner's walkthrough, at the end under unsolved questions it says "How do I get a 'lotus turbo esprit', or a 'serpent statue'? And where the heck is 'Jerry the Rat'?"
From reading earlier messages on this forum, I get the impression that Jerry the Rat only exists in the code of the game but doesn't appear in the game itself. As for the serpent statue, a web page I saw described how to get this object. (I didn't manage to get it myself, but I think that's because I'd skewed my settings by using a character editor program.)
My question is - how does your character even hear about either of those things in the first place? I didn't see them mentioned in any conversation I had during the whole game, or in the manual .pdf files.

I vaguely remember some of this discussed before, but I seriously doubt any of it was intended to be used in the game. Origin had a penchant for so called easter eggs being put into their games, but these seem to be too far removed for that. Likely, they were just there in the code work for the enjoyment of the programmers.
As far as the buttons, I dunno. Bashing's fun, too.

Yeah, that's the key to a room on level 3 of the castle. That will lead to an upset...
ghost called warren (spector).

Hmnn...If it's the one I think your talking about then you will need to flip the levers + buttons in the correct direction. I seemed to have misplaced my notebook with all of these things in them at the moment, but you can find a note in the game that gives you some pretty good clues.

The serpent statue and Jerry are from Ultima IV. If you played that yet, I highly recommend that you get your hands on a copy and use<a href="http://exult.sourceforge.net/">Exult</a> to play it.

Two points, Exult plays Ultima VII, not IV, and you use the statue in VII: The Serpent Isle.
So what's this about the statue being in UW2? UW2 is sitting between VII: The Black Gate, and VII: The Serpent Isle on the time line, and you are told in SI that the statue was gained in your last quest. Which means you should be able to find the statue in UW2. But if it's there, I never saw it. :weird:

Sorry, that was a typo mate. Either that or I should consider taking evening classes for roman numerals.

The serpent thing got me thinking, so I asked over at the Exult forums... The goblins in the sewer underneath the castle hand it over later in the game, apparently. So long as you're friendly.
