Thanks. I found yesterday 3 mantras on level 2. One of them is about improving the quality of a deal. I thought I could use it before making a deal. Am I supposed to recite it at a shrine and then it will have effect for the rest of the game or how does it work?
I also found why I didn't had sound anymore. I loaded once the game in Windows and since it couldn't initialize the sound, it turned it off. Then when I played it in DOS the sound and music were turned off. I just realized this yesterday so I turned the sound back on.
I haven't found any shrine on level 1. Is there really one there? If there is, is it easily accessible or do I have to swim to get to it.
Also on level 1 I have a stupid problem. There is a door I can't reach. I'm supposed to jump to get to it but whenever I jump I hit the wall and I fall into water. This happens in an area that I accessed through a secret door from the place where I found the silver sapling. No matter how I position for the jump I hit something and I fall, feels like a stupid clipping problem.

That's the door to the shrine. Btw it's opened by a lever somewhere nearby which you'd better pull before you go to the door since
there is no other way to open it ! Also it's easier to jump if you walk before jumping('s' key) instead of running('w').
The mantra stuff is at follows: whenever you gain a level you receive a number of 'skill points' (unfortunatelly you can't see how many you have left, like in UW2). When you recite a mantra, one or more of your skills(depending on the mantra) increase, and you lose a skill point. When you have 0 skill pts, you cannot advance anymore and you have to wait for the next 'level up' (btw max level is 16).
The mantra you found increases appraise and, basically, it's highly useless

Good to hear about you solving the sound problem.
Chiller said everything I would have about the shrine area.
LORE is my choice, also, for the more useful of skills second only to ATTACK. I'm maxed on both, but nothing else, yet.

Thanks for letting me know how the mantra works. Kind of annoying you cannot see how many skill points you have left.
I managed to get to the shrine door by walking and doing a long jump (using a spell). I haven't found the lever to open it but I'll look again, I thought I needed a key.
I basically finished with level 2 so I'll have to start exploring level 3.

If you want to know where the lever is, keep reading.

The lever to open the shrine entrance is on the opposite side of that area on another ledge.

Attack and Defense are interesting. In UW2, your chance to hit is adjusted up based on 1/2 your attack skill, PLUS your weapon skill. It seems more worth it to upgrade your weapon skill than attack. Defense is adjusted based on FULL DEF, plus 1/2 weapon skill. I'm not sure of what else ATTACK will do for you.

- Excerpt from Big Trouble in Little China -
Uncle Chu- "China is here, Mr. Burton. The Chang-Sing, the Wing-Kong, they've been fighting for centuries!"
Jack- "What does that mean? Huh, China is here, I don't even know what the hell that means all I know is this Lo-Pan character shows up outta thin air in the middle of a g*dd*mned alley, while his buddies are flyin' around on wires cuttin' everybody to shreds, and he just stands there, waitin' for me to drive my truck straight through him!? With LIGHT comin' out of his mouth!?!?"

The map is in the Chasm of Fire. Escape from the prison in the NW through one of the cells, go down into the Chasm and head eastward. I think it is also possible to get to it from the other side, but this is rather unpleasant because of the Fire Elementals.

Vakthoth, I never got the sound to run, and I have a SB PCI512
