Ok, I've not seen anyone else having this problem running UW and UW2 (from EA classics CD)in a DOS box under 95/98. It seems everyone can run the game fine once they set the memory option right under properties. My problem is this: I set all the memory option like I think they should be set (all autos, with "protected" checked) and that seems to solve the EMS prob, but I still get an error code. The screen says:
EMS allocated.
Cannot run Underworld.
Resource problem or internal error. Error code A006.
A006 seems to be a problem with the old "files=" setting in the config.sys, but nothing I do seems to have any effect at resolving this issue. Any ideas? I'd really like to have this running under a dos box instead of trying to cobble together a boot disk.
Thanks,

I had the same problem with my EA classics CD...couldnt get it to run under win95/98.
Solution - I downloaded the games from an abandonware site, as these were from the latest release(ultimate rpg something). They work fine and no cd access all the time!

I had this problem too...
My solution was to totally ignore the default method of installing/running the games, and follow the manual's instructions for doing a full hard-drive install.
The configuration routine is different this way, which may well be related to the problem. At any rate, it worked a treat for me, and you won't need the CD afterwards.

hmmm...
Sounds easier than my way.

Thanks, the full install did it. I feel like a bonehead for not trying it earlier. I had to wrestle with the sound for a while, but I got it working.
Does UW1 crash for everyone when attempting the standing long jump?
I'm actually finding the games a lot easier and more intuitive to control after beating system shock. Seem like I used the mouse exclusively when I originally played the Underworlds, and now I'm getting things done alot more competently and quickly.

OK, two stupid questions:
1) How do I do a full install of UW2?
2) What abandonware site did you download from?

Dohh I lost the manual... when I got my new comp I threw out almost all my old manuals (only ones I have now are for DUNE and TIE Fighter lol). Umm so could you like post a walkthru of a full harddrive install? Or e-mail me one or something? I would appreciate it.

Uncle Chu- "China is here, Mr. Burton. The Chang-Sing, the Wing-Kong, they've been fighting for centuries!"
Jack- "What does that mean? Huh, China is here, I don't even know what the hell that means all I know is this Lo-Pan character shows up outta thin air in the middle of a g*dd*mned alley, while his buddies are flyin' around on wires cuttin' everybody to shreds, and he just stands there, waitin' for me to drive my truck straight through him!? With LIGHT comin' out of his mouth!?!?"

Okay, I install it to my hardrive like the manual says. No sound though. I don't get any error messages like some are experiencing. I just get no sound. UUW Sound configuration says it detects my music and speech too.
