I'm new here, so I don't know how often this issue might have been addressed, but I feel like asking. As a long time Ultima fan, I've followed every major Ultima remake project, most of which, as we all know, are never finished. Both of the main Ultima Underword remakes that I have been following have petered out into nothing, which is a shame. But why is it that no one has attempted to remake UUW 1 or 2 in the Arx Fatalis engine? It seems like a natural fit, for obvious reasons. Has this ever been attempted? Will anyone ever try?

We don't have an editor for Arx Fatalis, and from what I remember making levels would be quite hard, even if we had the tools, because the original levels were created almost entirely in 3ds max (i.e. there was no true editor like UnrealEd or DromEd).

If you were to do it today, I would recommend the Oblivion engine since you could reuse alot of art and game mechanics without change. There is a pretty big modding community on their official forums. If you search for Underworld, you should find a thread where somebody suggested UU2.
And they have a pretty good editor.

There were at least 2 attempts to recreate UW1/2 with the Morrowind engine.. but like always with huge MOD projects they quit after making like 5-10% of it.

Dark Messiah will have an SDK.
You could even make it a multiplayer Stygian Abyss.

Wow, that's something to keep an eye on. I wonder if he's heard about our forums?
