I've tried the UT forums and general searches on the internet and I have found more than a couple of people who are not able to play UT3 on a lan without first connecting to the internet and using online profiles. While a few have suggested that the game does support true lan only gaming, I have not found a post that actually offers help to those that have the same problem I do.
If I force a Lan game and do not connect to the internet to load a profile, I cannot change my character name, I cannot configure several map properties, and no one on the Lan can see or join my game. I successfully play UT2004, diablo2, Serious Sam 1 and 2, Age of Empires 2 and 3, share files, etc. on the same Lan and machines with no problems.
I'm fairly frustrated because I bought 2 copies of the game for the sole purpose of Lan only gaming and so far have only been able to play the single player campaign as going online is not an option.
I appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

I'm not sure about this, but I think some issues with profile identification and usage in offline play were solved in one of the patches Epic rolled out. If you haven't already, I'd suggest having a look at that.

I was hopeful of this as well, but both systems were updated (1.3, I believe is the latest). It also does not work if we switch which system is the server and it does not seem to work if I try a dedicated server either.
Thank you very much for the idea!
