I'm just curious, how many FM makers use John P's textures, and how do you like to load them (for other people who aren't using them currently)
I had my level about half way done when I remembered them. I extracted out a package, and then copied those textures to a folder, then did the next package. Then I copied the files from each folder into Thief3Edit's texture folder over the low-res ones. Would it help people to zip those folders up and host them, or are they available somewhere already? It just takes such a long time to get them by stripping the OMs
Also, do you take into account the performance hit by using them, or is it smaller than the performance hit in the OMs because with an FM the texture gets cooked into the ibt, and the OMs load them from the DynamicallyLoaded folder?
Lastly, which Garrett Pack do you like the best, because the players will use the one that you choose. (and there are a few to choose from, although I always play in 1st person)

I think which Garret skin you use is really only secondary, because nearly everyone plays in 1st person. I am going to forbid to switch viewmode in my FM, because you can look around corners easy that way, which is kind of a cheat to me.
I guess hosting the original texture files doesnt make sense cause the normal installer comes with an uninstaller which resets all to standard... :) But i am going to use them highres textures too i think.
Sry that i was so negative! :D

Heh :)
I was just thinking of the textures by themselves, because it takes maybe 20 minutes to extract them out using the installers. It has to search through all of the OMs and hex edit them.

I'm sometimes tempted to use it as a substitute for leaning. Leaning in Thief 1 and 2 was actually useful, and indeed a necessary tool; in Thief 3 it's completely and utterly
useless, because it exposes you so much. :erg:
It's your decision if you want to disable third person, of course, and it certainly does help to keep the immersion if third person is unavailable. Just thought I'd mention that looking around corners was an important part of previous Thief games, so it's not really cheating. :)

Yes i knew that. PLayed both games, too. :) But you can still lean in thief3 but if you are stepping into the light you will light up too, which isnt so nice... They could habe done that much better.

I'd also like to use JohnP's textures in my FM.
Are these textures avaible in ZIP somewhere?

Nope, you would just have to run the installer into an empty directory and suffer through the errors. ;)

I am currently making a new installer that will contain ALL my Thief: DS textures, but I will update/change most of them, and also make a whole lot (hopefully) more textures before I release the installer, so it's going to take some time before it's done.
-What specifically do I have to do to make the new installer compatible with an editor install?
If a person has the editor installed, is it then not necessary to override the textures inside the .ibt files, but rather just back up the original low res textures that comes with the editor, and extract my high res versions into the same folder? Or do you have to override the originals inside the .ibt files anyway?

Depending on what version of the installer people are using, it would be slightly different. No need to worry about ibt's though.
In the standard T3Ed, the textures are stored in PcTextures and Textures. The latter being a mix of textures for xbox that the editor uses.
In T3EnhancEd, I merged the two folders into PCTextures so that both the editor and the game only use that same folder. So you would just have to backup the single folder and drop your hi-res textures in there. :)
