I keep seeing totally useless things for sale. I mostly ignore them and consequently forget about them but this one thing keeps popping up on my internets for some reason.

http://www.guardianoffers.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/GuardianOffers/_PML0000820/-/Luggage-Scale) The Luggage Scale
Wtf is this thing? Its a frikking scale for your luggage. Now I understand the need to weigh your luggage what with the big cash you have to pay per kilo overweight your bags are but I think people need to step back a little here.
What do you have in your house that weighs things that are usually heavier than your luggage? Something that is portable, of suitable size for weighing you AND your luggage and so facilitating a simple calculation to determine the weight of the luggage?
YOUR OWN SCALE!
Wait, you don't have one? Well I'll let you have this one then. Otherwise invest in some sense. Anyone who has one of these luggage scale things and a personal scale please donate the same amount of money you wasted on that luggage tat to charity NOW and slap yourself upside the head.
There are so many things I see that are supposed to fulfill some important function but which seem totally redundant to me. And yet people must be buying them based on the different types (there are loads of different luggage scales, even "luxury" ones!!!"). When did we get so dumb?

It's just a force meter with a different..uh... scale. I wouldn't buy one, but I can see the use for people who travel and purchase a lot of stuff or bring laptops, or samples and the lot around for work. Hotels don't usually have scales, and this is small enough to easily fit in a suitcase.

But if you're going to do that, then how do you weigh the scale?

Obviously you need two scales. But you will end up with two leather passport holders, so that's okay.

You turn the scale upside down so it weighs itself, too.
Duh!

You take your bathroom scales on holiday with you, do you?
Thought not.
I bought luggage scales last year and they've saved me excess baggage charges on the one holiday I've used them for. They've paid for themselves already.
Engage brain next time you think of starting a dumb thread like this.
