Oh piss off with your high-horse humour policing. Who laughs at jokes JUST because they are meant to offend? Un-PC jokes are funny because they are funny, the fact that they are in bad taste just makes them a bit more risque. You admitted yourself that you laughed at the 9/11 knock-knock joke. How much of an asshole does that make you?
I'm entitled to an opinion, bucko. Just like you're entitled to comment on posts you seem to barely read - the whole NEVAR FORGET thing is complete idiocy and therefore I can laugh at a disingenuous "knock knock" joke for literally taking it's own device and providing the punchline.
In doing so there's no laughing at people dying, or trivialising the reason they died either - that's not to say that I believe that the pilots of the planes had some sort of noble idealism, but they certainly had a purpose, intent and reason for doing what they did. It's that intent that makes the whole post-9/11 Iraq War so much uglier, ironic and terribly human. To trivialise the actions of the terrorists only further cheapens what looks to be (the movie, I mean) a sordid cash-in on the very ugly nature of America post-9/11.
Just to provide a counter example, take a look at Team America,
from what I remember it manages to be mocking of the post-9/11 culture without needlessly trivialising any of it.

I don't know what happened in San Fran Scots, but you need to chill out.
You continue to pull lines like this out of your bag of tricks, this isn't the first time you've suggested a poster is "out of line" and try to blame some totally unrelated incident on it. What exactly does this even mean, you collossal tool? :weird:
Oh, and as for Monkeysee, I'll nick Shug's line:

There is no laughing at people dying in that clip either. That clip is just making fun of the terrorists - suggesting that they are misguided and just a bit stupid. The movie looks like a cash in on the current trend of "Look at how far we can take it!!! Yep, we went there!!!" homour and shock horror that is all the rage at the moment, not post-9/11 events per se.

It just means that you need to chill out. I've never seen you jump in and start throwing insults like that before is all. Stop reading things into things that aren't there. Of course it's unrelated to San Fran ffs.

Whereas you are the measure of easygoing restraint.
Anyway, I'm all about nothing being sacred in regard to humor and whatnot--hell, I even once wrote a joke 9/11 song--but I've got to admit that nothing quite steamrolls the soul like the thought of a theater of people laughing at the last fifteen seconds of that clip.
SubJeff on 13/9/2007 at 23:36
I'm afraid I really don't understand you when you say "steamrolls the soul". I can make a guess but I reckon it wouldn't be quite right.
Yeah I'm not easygoing and restrained. But imho Scots has had a complete failure of comprehension regarding what is, and is not, funny about that clip.

Only assholes derive humour from the possible effects this sort of joke has - outrage - upset - anger - emotional responses that are negative or harmful.
What? So people don't find a joke funny, they find the offensiveness of it funny? Yeah, in the minority of cases perhaps. In this case I highly doubt it.

The best thing about that trailer is the way it skullfucks that irritating Tarantino conversational formula into the middle of next week.
Who ever imagined Uwe Boll could totally redeem himself?!

I'm glad you took the time to clarify things because I don't think I really had a clear bead on your stance regarding this issue.

Do I detect sarcasm? Difficult to tell in text. Apos if not.
Anyways, still don't get your steamroller thing.
Scots Taffer on 14/9/2007 at 00:02
Listen, SE, I can appreciate humour that's designed to provoke those kind of reactions/emotions as long as it's clever, witty or original. All I'm saying is that for humour as shallow and unoriginal as that clip provides in the first one or two minutes, I'm afraid that you can't give it a pass when it becomes uncomfortably and increasingly obvious that these are the terrorists from 9/11 and that a meta-joke is now arising, a joke which involves a whole lot of people dying - any minor humour derived from the scene until that point is pretty quickly given a completely different perspective. I'm guessing that's what Stitch means by steam-rolling the soul.
So, when I said only assholes and people with no standard as far as how tasteless humour can get would appreciate that clip, I was wrong - it also works if you have terrible taste in comedy and simply don't get the desired intent, which is definitely to upset and cause controversy.
SubJeff on 14/9/2007 at 00:36
So if they'd really flown to the Bahamas and they weren't the 9/11 hijackers it'd ok? Yes the joke is pretty obvious, but it was that coupled with the delivery I found amusing. You just found the whole thing offensive and not amusing? At all? Maybe you shouldn't have posted the link then!
Sure it's meant to be controversial (heck it bills itself as a disgusting, retarded film but that's the wave it's riding at the moment and IS for Postal fcs) but Team America has plenty of offensive/controversial stuff in it and you seem to think that's ok.
