Syria has protested angrily to both the US and Iraq after what it said was a US helicopter raid inside its territory that killed eight civilians.
Quote:
Although there has been no official US response, an unnamed US military official told the Associated Press news agency that special forces had targeted al-Qaeda linked militants moving across the border.
"We are taking matters into our own hands," the US official said.
Quote:
Our correspondent says the timing of the incident is curious, coming right at the end of the Bush administration's period of office and at a moment when many of America's European allies - like Britain and France - are trying to broaden their ties with Damascus.
So...
What do you think ?
Was that necessary ? It seemed to target al-Qaeda even if it tragically killed innocents.
On the other hand it just creates more tension and hatred towards America and their attacks that ignore all diplomatic lines.
And the timing, so near the end of Bush presidency... Is it a need to remind voters on the dangers of terrorism ? Or just a coincidental risky operation that just backfired ?

Seems accidental, but who knows what Darth Bush desperately plots in the Dark Star...

Missiles from a suspected U.S. drone aircraft killed up to 20 militants in a Pakistani region on the Afghan border on Monday
[27, today], officials said, hours before Afghan and Pakistani tribal and political leaders met to discuss peace.
Quote:
"They were very accurate. The missiles struck rooms where the guests were having dinner. None survived," a militant said by telephone. "We've recovered 20 bodies," said the militant, who declined to be identified.
This is weird timing.

It worked during the last election, didn't it.

More of a state of mind than a place: one where little boys and girls can run free from the fear of persecution, where flowers are more than just for the haves and not the have-nots, where taffy drips freely from open spigots, and all chickens are created equal as long as their eggs didn't cross the road first.

That's embarassing... but I have excuse, I'm not a die-hard fan!

Of course it wasn't necessary.
I'm sure that the Bush government wants to control all of the Middle East at the first chance they get.
This isn't about Al-Qaeda, it's probably either a) some people started protesting or showing opposition to the occupation being so close to the border or b)insurgents(they exist but they're not Al-Qaeda, they're just the resistance)
The US Government has gone too far and I really think they don't have any respect towards the governments of other countries, sort of like the bully country of the world("Do what we say or else" approach).
The Iraq war was never about terrorism and it actually de-stabilised the whole country and threw the country into a never ending cycle of violence. It was always about Oil and if they managed to take out Sadam then all the better, one less obstacle in the way.
Anyway I'm really liking what China is doing, someone needs to stand up to the US and the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore.
