Yeah, the political positions at the top will all be stacked with loyalists. Democrats need the Senate to stop that. Losing the Senate was kind of expected, but with Trump winning, now it really hurts. There will be friction between Trump's appointees and the senior executives at the top of the civil service. He can't fire them without cause. Presuming Republicans keep the House, I expect to see a civil service reform bill that gives him that power. He's also constrained by all the statutes governing the various agencies. Like last time, he will blow some of them off, and try to defend himself in court. If Congressional Republicans are unified, they can pave the way for him. But if they are like normal, it will be up to the courts to decide how far he can go.
I don't see anything in there that realistically stops a collapse of the civil service. The Senate is Republican now. The courts are corrupt AF and willing to rule absurdities to aid him. The closest thing to hope is that they're just
so fucking incompetent. But not
all of them are.

Well, looks like it's going to be another 4 years of "told you so".
...:laff:
Well, at least it will be better than 4 years of this...

Fast Forward 4 years, when the impossible-to-resolve (because they're not real) "greatness" problems will be the same as today, all this electoral show will pass to Vance as presidential candidate? Is this the plan?
LordBooford on 6/11/2024 at 12:00
In four years? Trump is a 78 year old man who drags his feet, slurs words and wears diapers. He gets through rallies with the help of endurance boosting drugs give to him by doctors.

My question is about the NEXT republican candidate that will inherit this eternal "greatness lost" shitshow. How he will justify the greatness not yet returned to America? Because not being missing ("greatness" is just a word) it can't return now.....and never.

I'm expecting rampant cronyism and corruption rather than a collapse of the civil service. I'm more worried about international relations because it feels like we're headed towards world war.

I think the 'greatness lost' feeling was worse here in the late 1970s and early 1980s, after Vietnam when stagflation and Japanese competition was killing our manufacturing industries. When people feel like their standard of living is getting better, it goes away. The direction of the economy is really unpredictable because of Trump's tariff idea. If he follows though on that, it should push us right into recession. But I don't think he will.

Are you fucking serious? Justin Trudeau is an idiot. Trump is a violent criminal.
Criminal? Maybe. Violent? Nah. He's more like the Joker in one of the older Batman movies where he dances around laughing while his followers do all the mischief.

That's not what I heard last time!
Actually, I found it difficult to vote this time. In 2020, the COVID year, my town consolidated from two large polling places to the high school in the center of town. It led to some long lines, but it was orderly. This time, it was a disaster. Traffic was jammed all day with cars trying to get to the high school and find parking. In the evening, it took me an hour to get through one roundabout on the way. I ended up parking in a strip mall and walked 15 minutes to the high school. Then the queue at the polls was nearly 2 hours. Based on that, I assumed turnout was high, but when I checked this morning, it's about the same as last time, so I don't know why things were so slow. At least my state doesn't close the polls at 6PM like some do. I envy the places that have voting holiday.
In general the system works regardless of the outcome. People vote, then someone wins. There are hiccups here and there but the system has worked every four years as long as I can remember. Also, I nearly always mail in a ballot so there are no lines. In 2016 I voted in person at a Mormon church and there was a long line, but I had no issues.

I'm in one of those backwards states that requires a justification for a mail-in ballot.
