Well, looks like it's going to be another 4 years of "told you so".

Trump's own cabinet and staff all turned against him after working with him, so we can fully expect his own people will fight against him at every turn this round too. We can only pray that when Trump (
https://www.npr.org/2022/05/09/1097517470/trump-esper-book-defense-secretary) asks his own people to shoot protestors that they still refuse this time around.
Quote:
"The president was enraged," Esper recalled. "He thought that the protests made the country look weak, made us look weak and 'us' meant him. And he wanted to do something about it.
"We reached that point in the conversation where he looked frankly at [Joint Chiefs of Staff] Gen. [Mark] Milley and said, 'Can't you just shoot them, just shoot them in the legs or something?' ... It was a suggestion and a formal question. And we were just all taken aback at that moment as this issue just hung very heavily in the air."

Are you saying that because of your experience with Trudeau?
Are you fucking serious? Justin Trudeau is an idiot. Trump is a violent criminal.

Nothing really. The process works well every four years.
That's not what I heard last time!
Actually, I found it difficult to vote this time. In 2020, the COVID year, my town consolidated from two large polling places to the high school in the center of town. It led to some long lines, but it was orderly. This time, it was a disaster. Traffic was jammed all day with cars trying to get to the high school and find parking. In the evening, it took me an hour to get through one roundabout on the way. I ended up parking in a strip mall and walked 15 minutes to the high school. Then the queue at the polls was nearly 2 hours. Based on that, I assumed turnout was high, but when I checked this morning, it's about the same as last time, so I don't know why things were so slow. At least my state doesn't close the polls at 6PM like some do. I envy the places that have voting holiday.

And if Trump really does win, that will be the last election in the USA.
Erosion of democracy or even the complete absence of it doesn't necessarily mean the end of elections. Russia still has elections. Hell, there were "elections" even during Soviet times.

I dunno, the big deal with Project 2025 was always stocking up with loyalists to prevent that sort of thing from happening again.

Yeah, the political positions at the top will all be stacked with loyalists. Democrats need the Senate to stop that. Losing the Senate was kind of expected, but with Trump winning, now it really hurts. There will be friction between Trump's appointees and the senior executives at the top of the civil service. He can't fire them without cause. Presuming Republicans keep the House, I expect to see a civil service reform bill that gives him that power. He's also constrained by all the statutes governing the various agencies. Like last time, he will blow some of them off, and try to defend himself in court. If Congressional Republicans are unified, they can pave the way for him. But if they are like normal, it will be up to the courts to decide how far he can go.

Looks like a lot of Democrats stayed home this time. I've been perusing the results. The difference between the final poll numbers and the vote seems to be about 2% in most places. Trump's support stayed about the same as 2020, but Harris got a lot fewer votes than Biden. I guess the enthusiasm gap I was seeing here is nationwide.
