Trump has been interested in receiving adulation his whole life.
He's a master at manipulating people into giving it to him.
It's pretty clear he doesn't understand anything of policy. His economic and social world is completely transactional, so for example his economic understanding is literally medieval mercantilism, which was already debunked by the 13th Century, so for him a tariff on ALL imported goods, which will explode the cost of everything on the store shelf, is a great idea. His social understanding doesn't go much further than white (West European, Scandinavian, Slavic) = indistinguishably good, African and Latin American = indistinguishably bad.
His staff have regularly stated that most of his actual positions were whatever the last person he spoke to said. What kind of politics can you even make out of that? The Trump kind.

I guess some people just really miss the excitement he brought to their lives -- the massive protests, the constant scandals, everything being about Lord Dampnut all the time, etc.
Also, one thing to note that this isn't just Democrats calling him fascist -- it's his own staff.
RippedPhreak on 25/10/2024 at 00:38
Weird that you think Trump was responsible for the riots and protests. As for "everything being about Trump all the time," it's not his fault that the media has a meltdown freakout every time he says or does anything at all, down to looking at an eclipse or feeding koi.
Maybe log off and get some sun instead of obsessing over Trump all the time.
Starker on 25/10/2024 at 01:07
I'm not obsessing over anyone. I'm just sitting back and "enjoying" the freak show you guys across the pond are putting on.
Also, you probably haven't realised, being inundated with all of this, just how much of an aberration he is. Yes, your media is sensationalist and feeds on the guy as much as he feeds on them, but it's not exactly normal to get fascist rhetoric like he spouts. If any regular politician had said something like it, their career would be over in an instant.
It's really a scathing indictment of the people of the US that he gets a free pass constantly and that he's still considered to be a viable candidate for office.
As for protests, I wasn't referring to the (
https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2021/0708/BLM-and-Floyd-protests-were-largely-peaceful-data-confirms) largely peaceful BLM protests or the police rioting that escalated many of these protests.

CNN and New York Times poll shows a near tied for both contenders to the white house. .
Who's gonna win is a mystery, shrouded in darkness and uncertainty.
.
Somebody better bring some booze to calm down.

That's the hardest part to take. I didn't want to believe that we in the US were so bad. I wanted to think we were deep down good people and that we wouldn't fall for such a stupid egotistical conman. It turns out we are a fearful gullible society willing to overlook any fault no matter how base and evil just because he is "our party" or that he follows "our religion". Hell, Christianity has proven itself false for one man. It warned of the antichrist for two thousand years and then fell for him when he came. Anything he says and does is okay to Republicans. Anything. That may not be an actual antichrist but it's close enough.

The problem with US "institutional castle", just like the russian one, is that it can sustain itself only behaving like an empire. It's structural, that's the main problem about the "power" and so its administration (the politics game and I mean as a roleplay). It's more than "bad vs good" people.
Democracy is just a part of a bigger power game people are just "instructed" to play as democrats or republicans (but it's totally indifferent).

Many supporting Trump are just raising their middle finger and saying fuck you to a government they've been groomed all their life to believe is bad, broken, and the source of their problems. Others are anarchists and revolutionaries who see him as a useful wrecking ball, both left and right fringes. White nationalists hope he will be the one to start the civil war. Christian nationalists hope he will establish a theocracy. None of these voters care what kind of person he is or how effective he is. It's almost like the worse he is, the better he is.
A whole lot more people are just tuned out of politics and current events and don't usually consume any news, so they don't really know who they are voting for. They're voting for Trump because the economy was better under Trump before COVID than it is now, or because they don't like LGBTQ people. Not rational reasons. But we're going through a period where people are rejecting rationality for reasons I don't get.
I also don't get why Harris hasn't made more effort to appease the populism and end her campaign with a positive forward-looking approach. Instead she's wrapping it up with a final attempt to scare people away from Trump, which is a mistake because people are deaf to that. I think it's going to sink her.

Probably because while the Harris/Walz messaging was attempting to be positive, her lead nationally went from like 4% to 1%. Which means she's going to lose badly.
There are 2 kinds of Trump voters, the rich and the stupid, and neither of those groups are going anywhere anytime soon.
