It's an outrageously complex situation - depending on how good a friend it is, your relationship with the current/ex-girlfriend, what actually happened, etc - but honestly, old mate has himself to blame if he did it in the first place and she found out and/or had suspicions.

Call me self-righteous, but I think you did the right thing by being honest when she asked if your mate cheated on her. The fact is that from what I've read he sounds like a total sleaze bag, and not a friend you'd want to be around anyway. Having him cut off from his financial dependence from her is a step closer to getting him off his addiction (monetary and hallucinogenic) and back on taking responsibility for himself.
As for the woman, I would tread carefully around her. I'm not talking about being timid and stealthy; just don't let her get too much of a hold on you, socially romantically or otherwise. It's your house, she's a guest and you're the one in charge. You call the shots.
