I've uploaded an updated T3ed KomagTut tutorial to the Keep!
After taking care of some real life things, I have more time now for Thief and editing, so I'm back in the game. I'm planning to have the complete tutorial done in a couple weeks, and then schedule Contest 6 to start soon after that, probably in early July (looks like right at the end of the other contest, we'll see how the timing works out! ;) )
I agree with the general feeling around that we need a boost to the T3 editing community, so hopefully this will help the momentum :D
This will be the basic contest setup:
- size limit (keeps you from overextending), exact dimensions TBA
- time limit (about two months)
- can include anything you want, though most of us will just use stock resources
- robust-yet-easy voting system, with prizes and glory to the winner(s)
- more details later
I also want to say, I don't want to compete with the other contest - I fully support it and am not "ticked off" or any other silly feeling. Just to set the record straight, I would encourage people to enter the other contest if they want to, and then also enter mine after that. :thumb:

Heh. I don't think anyone realised you'd be ready quite so quickly (I know I didn't). Contests, contests, everywhere! Which is a good thing, mind you. :)
If you start just after the other contest and go for two months, that means it'll roughly correspond to the beginning and end dates of my next term. So I can't make any promises as to my entering, unfortunately. :( Then again, two months is quite a while, so we'll see how things turn out.
Nothing personal against you of course (I'm such a newbie that I don't even know you anyway!)... just final year of schooling. It gets to be a bit hectic during term time, so everything apart from schoolwork largely goes out the window for long stretches. :tsktsk:

It's all going to be a little confusing, no? Having 2 competitions may mean that the entries are divided between them. Or that people will choose the one with the rules that suit them most. Or we could get 2 sets of entries and it will be awesome. I don't know though, I doubt the latter, unfortunately.

I'd love to participate in the contest... again. Thanks, Komag!
My advice: make the contest begin one month after finishing and uploading FULL tutorial. That would allow builders to learn T3Ed better...

I'm in. I really need to do something constructive with my time, anyway.

Komag, I'd like to thank you for working on the tutorial. It's very easy to read and understand, and I find that it's much better to work with than those generic UnrealEd tutorials. I like all of the of practical tips you include for helping to design your levels faster. The only other thing I could ask for is some pictures to help clarify the process. It may not make much of a difference now, but I think it might be good for later when you include some things about brush clipping and vertex editing and all of those confusing geegaws. Looking forward to your next release. :thumb:

I, in fact, plan to do a fully illustrated version of the tutorial after it is fully written first. The reason is, I don't want to rely on the pictures AT ALL! So I will write it as clearly as possible to describe what you can't see, and then when I go back and add in the pictures here and there it will make even that much easier and clearer!
Plus, this way folks can still have access to text-only verion if they want, to download it to their PDA or for printing or whatever, where they would prefer text-only.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I, for one, would always prefer a well-written piece to one that is reliant on illustrations to do the work for it. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Tutorial updated yet again, this time to pre07, 45%
I'll probably just keep updating it daily (or almost daily) for the next week or two!

Great! :thumb:
My small request (I haven't read the newest tutorial versions yet, so this might be obsolete): could you, please, write in your tutorial about the most important things designers SHOULD NOT do in T3Ed while working with brushes, scripts, AIs etc.
As a T3Ed novice I find it hard to start working on a real mission without knowledge about the most common mistakes that cause errors (especially "hidden" errors). (As far as I know, there are already some lighting, sound etc. errors found.) You probably read many threads and articles while working on tutorial and you probably gained knowledge about what we shouldn't do, so it will not be difficult for you to include such informations in the text.
Thanks for everything, Komag!
