On Expert, I have had no problem with the portal, but I am stuck.
1. The only main objective which I have not completed is to find the Heart of Gems.
2. I do not have one of the four candles that go on the pedestal of an obelisk in one of the squares.
3. I cannot open the door where the statue says to let the fire burn the liars.
4. I cannot get anything to interact with the patch of earth at the opposite end of the area outside town with the drunken guards and the flower.
5. I cannot get anything to interact with the anvil in the weapons store.
6. I have read here about some ashes. I do not have them.
Any hints please?

should get you on the right track for most of the others.
Search the storage area at ground level
in extreme south west with the "sewer" cover leading to the sceptre statues.

To interact with the patch of earth you might wanna use a shovel
In the area where you did find the sword there is a shop you can enter in from the second floor/roof
In there you find areadable telling you where to find it.
Interacting with the patch of earth will give you the ashes
With those ashes you have to visit the crypts opposite the hammer church
You will have to bring some more goodies
candles and flowers
When you are done in the crypts, you will have found/ retrieved another item that you can use on the liar statue.

Same here I have 3 candles and have not found the ashes or what goes in the dirt patch can some one help us?

Stuck again I have the ashes but where do you put them I have placed the two candles and flowers first but I don't see where the ashes go???:confused:

@marbrien: i don't think you can do anything with 5....
the beast and the barrier... yes that is hard. but there is a easy way... just like how you would/could deal with haunts
