We are working on a patch/update for both the PC and Xbox 360. It will address a number of issues that we have found and ones that have been reported to us and confirmed. It is our plan to first release it as a beta patch for the PC when it has cleared our initial testing cycles internally. Since it’s a beta patch you should be aware that issues may come up that we haven’t found yet and we strongly recommend you backup save games and understand it may be necessary to reinstall the game when the final patch comes out.
We are also looking into the localization issues that have come up in Europe and are working to address some of those issues. A European Patch/Update will be available after the English versions.
We’re doing both of these things as fast as we can and will let everyone know as soon as they are available.
There's more information about the upcoming (

Your feedback as we move forward in this is invaluable. Tell us what you want to see, how much of it, and what it might be worth to you. No, don’t say you want it free, because these plugins take a surprising amount of time to create, polish, and test (much more then Morrowind's).

You know, I am really impressed by the quality of the retail release of Oblivion. It's amazing that they have released a game of its scope with so few bugs. Frankly, kudos to Bethesda; I wish that more developers would do the same.

I was playing Civ 4 and seeing the bugs that has (heck there isn't even an update patch to fix a bug I'm getting that makes the map shift to the centre of the world away from the combat that is occurring) and wishing that devs would make games without bugs. I haven't got Oblivion but I think well done and thank you to the devs who made it bug free instead of rushing it with glaring obvious bugs (e.g. the ATi card bug) that Civ 4 came out with!

Dunno if it's too early to think/ask about this, but what about expansions? Can we expect something like Tribunal/Bloodmoon at some point? Or will there just be paid-for updates that include new stuff?

I am going to take a wild guess (basing on what the devs have said in the press that I have dug up over the weeks) that we aren't going to get Official Expansions a la Bloodmoon/Tribunal. The way I read it, these bite sized "paid plug-ins", are the way Oblivion's content will be expanded. I am going to bet money though, that sooner or later, they will feel pressured into giving us a decent sized freebee.

If you have ever tried wandering beyond Cyrodiil borders (bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 in ini), you'll notice that there's enough unused land for an expansion :p. Maybe Betsheda is going to make another province like Hammerfall (most of the unused land is there) ;).

I think there will be both - a large expansion or two, plus lots of small dollar/2dollar bite sized little expansions/quests
