I just heard that the weapons in DX 2 will all use the same type of ammo and that there will be no reloading in the game. Let's hope it works out. :thumb:

What? erm, I really don't believe that.

Thats possibly the most odd thing ive ever heard. Who came up with that idea i wonder!

This game is looking worse and worse every preview I read. To be honest, before I was thinking about importing it the moment it came out over there, but right now I think I'll wait until at the very least I get a PCG-UK review or a demo and I probably won't import it but wait the two months.
And to sum up my view on the point - splitting it down into all the different sub categories for each gun, removing that yes I understand - it loses a bit of complexity but the game gets more streamlined.
Having one bullet type for each gun makes sense. Having ammo thats the same for a rocket launcher and a pistol? erm, hell no - some of the most tense and atmospheric moments I had in Deus Ex 1 were because of lack of certain types of ammo forcing me to create new plans on-the-go - sure, it might be a bit inelegant, but it really made things more fun.

Cool. While they're at it, why don't they merge all gun types into one as well, so that we don't have to worry about horrible inventory problems. </sarcasm>

This reminds me of how all ammo was replaced with 'energy' in sequal to the great Syndicate - the decidedly average Syndicate Wars

... The new multitool?...
Anyways. The merging of ammo though does cause some distress in my opinion, and probably will be a sour note for the game. The variety of ammos both in SS1-2 and Deus Ex offered more options for tactics. However in SS2, we see that there more effect ammunitions than the standard making things somewhat easier and yet again throwing that extra HE grenaded from the Auto-Rifle in DX let me blow up baddies which was fun, but also allowed an easy end to the conflict.
It will be interesting to say the least. I hope it turns out for the best.

You know, on first hearing it I felt the same way, but actually I think this could be good in some ways.
I mean, I remember now, how in DX1 it was virtually impossible to go through the game with just one weapon, because of ammo usage. I ended up having to use the weapons I didn't like, not because they were any more or less effective, but because I didn't have a choice.
I might finally get to play a whole game with only the crossbow (oh wait, boltcaster) :)

types of ammo stored != types of ammo you can fire
EDIT: Since that seems to be what you're all complaining about. The main thing is tying the amount of ammo you have left for your guns together. That removes some asset management from the game, which sorta sucks, but it adds roleplaying oppurtunities, which is sorta cool, and it allows a roleplaying game like DX:IW to threaten the palyer with running out of ammo totally (which you never even got remotely close to in DX), which is also sorta cool.
So I guess you can weigh those up depending on what you liked more in DX and come out and decide whether you like the change or not.
Then, once you play the game, you can decide all over again ...
